Mercury: Banner Title Bar options
Posted: 31 Oct 20, 08:11

Hi all, I'm playing with the Mercury skin and looking at options for the banner title bar. The banner it self is getting very pixelated on my large display.

The obvious solution is to make a custom larger file and substitute it into the directory in the appropriate spot. Is there are any other way to control the size of this image or some neater way of selecting a file so jalbum adds a custom file in its place and I don't need to paste images in a dozen different spots every time I re-build the album?

Also on the title bar is there any flexibility on the location of the Up Nav ICON as it's a long way across the screen on the wide screen I use at home? Not an issue for phones of course.

Appreciate any advice.

Use the standard jAlbum trick for handling theme images. Find the image you want to use as the theme image. Make sure it's large, like at least 2000px wide. Now add it to the project, and drag its thumbnail over to the Theme image box on the lower right. Now exclude it from the project - don't delete it, just exclude it. There's an icon for that along the top row (looks like a "do not enter" sign), but it's quickest just to hit the minus key on your keyboard.

jAlbum will scale that image, but not to the normal image bounds - you can set the maximum image width at Mercury > Title Bar > Theme Image > Width. (If it didn't scale it at all, you could end up with the page stuck with loading some 6000px monster, and it would take too long). It will use it for the theme image, but the image won't be included anywhere else - there won't be a slide page for it.

You can do this in almost any skin that uses theme images.

The maximum spread of the navigation icons is controlled by the maximum width of the thumbnail table - Mercury > Layout > Thumbnails > Layout > Max table width. So, they're always in the same place on every page, regardless of image sizes. I've seen users set that number very high, which spreads their thumbnails out all the way across a large monitor. Looks awful - the human eye can't scan a thumbnail table that wide. The default value of 1250px is chosen for a reason.

If you're really intent upon spreading the thumbnail table out across the whole expanse of the monitor, but want to keep the nav icons more closely spaced, you can enter some custom CSS at Mercury > Code > CSS:
#me-ittibanner > div, #me-itbannerslide > div {max-width: 1200px;}
The first ID is for the index pages, the second is for the slide pages. The value, of course, is up to you.

(Thread moved to the Other Skins section, since it's skin-specific.)

Thanks Jeff, I'm still playing with it, I may well reduce width a but, the main reason I'm going wide is because there's lots of images in some of the tables. It'll take some experimenting to get a good layout.
