Hello, again...

Now, I may have asked about this before but I'm not sure, so I decided that
whilst I am thinking about things I would ask to see what you thought...

Its really just an annoyance more than anything but here we go...

When opening the album 'preferences' window, it pops up and is always
snug at the top of my screen with the OK and Cancel options disappearing
beyond the bottom. I either have to resize the window or just gently move the mouse
pointer so that it just touches the top of one of the visible buttons...

However when I resize the window, it solves the above problem except that quite
a few of the options listed disappear into the blue with no trace of them anywhere,
it all seems to be vertically and horizontally challenged in some way.

So, I ask two things, though I know you are already busy with other stuff...

1, Would it be possible for me to resize these windows so that I can see the two buttons
and also see all the available options... Maybe a vertical scroll bar would be useful in a
situation like this... ?

2, Could jAlbum be made to remember the positioning of my resized windows...

If none of this is possible then fair enough, I attach a couple of pictures.

Regards Peter

The problem is the Darcula look-and-feel. With the system standard, that window is 701px tall. With Darcula, it's 772px tall. If you're on a typical laptop, with a 1024x768 screen, you're out of pixels.

David either needs to put that material in a JScrollPane, or reorganize the contents into a more horizontal format. Those checkboxes in the lower half could easily be put into two columns, for example. Virtually all monitors are landscape mode, so better to go wide than tall.

Yes, going wide rather than tall seems a much better idea. I know this is
a bit mundane in the scheme of things, but a scroll bar would be fine,
going wide with two columns would be great !

I have no idea how difficult it would be to do though and am aware of that

A bit of space could be saved by grouping the save backup of projects and save project on make album. If the latter is selected having the former checked is of no use.

I'm so glad that just another user is bringing this issue up. I really would like to beg David to save the position and the size of all dialogs in the configuration file. I resize the "Options" and the "Project Gallery" dialogs every time I open them, that is a pain!

One of the first things I implemented in my on applications is that every dialog is able to save the position and size, and the next time it opens exactly at the last position with the last size. And I do store these information for each resolution/dpi:

[Forms/3840/96]
TfrmLogin=200,0,1,1407,709,2431,1449
TfrmRestore=200,0,1,1521,802,2319,1357

The example from Peter shows that the screen sizes out there differ a lot, so it is not possible to open dialogs in size which suits all users.

Thanks for considering to save/restore position an size of all dialogs.

Without being uppity....

As just an average user, I do quite like the format of the preferences and options
that MatrixSlide has...

Its a nicely shaped box that fits the screen perfectly and has lots in it,
with tabs along the top, everything's all labelled up and in one familiar place...

Thats just my thoughts though

I've always been reasonably careful about trying not to put five pounds of sausage in a four-pound bag, even when that has meant splitting a settings panel into two, even though the items on the two of them are closely related. When the height starts hitting the high-600's, it's time to start reorganizing.

For me I think the jAlbum 'Settings' window is just the job, I also notice
that when its resized and I am in the MatrixSlide tab, scroll bars will appear and expand or shrink as I drag the size around. All other tabs don't have them.

Just my thoughts again, but could 'Preferences' not be a tab or icon in the
'Settings' window, along the top with those already there..

I dont know whats possible, but if selecting 'Preferences' as you do now, maybe
the 'Settings' window would open and load a 'Preferences' tab in the process...

The Settings/MatrixSlide tabs are purely skin-generated, and the jAlbum stuff can't invade those. And vice-versa.

I wondered, maybe some of the scroll bar features you have could be used or
increase the column number, I just thought I might ask about it all, its annoying
resizing windows to see things every time you look in and I do think it would help get people
noticing jAlbum more, seems a shame, as this sort of thing lets it down a bit.

I am not qualified to say anything in any way, but if things need looking at, then lets finish the job...

I take notes :-)

Here's an updated beta which puts scrollbars around the Preferences window if not all controls fit: http://jalbum.net/download/beta/jalbum-core.jar

Ok.....

The scroll bars are lovely David, and I can move the windows options
up and down perfectly, however, they dont seem to have any
effect on upon moving the 'Ok' and 'Cancel' buttons so that they are in view...

The scroll bars only seem to move the options in their part of the window,
the buttons stay where they are...

Regards, Peter

Please see the picture attached..

Ps, Thats probably where the resizing and the remembering of,
window position, would be very very helpful. Peter
