Since 3 days I have the following problem with Tiger, which didn't exist on Jan 31 2020.
On my (photo) website I have a main paige (album) with thumbnails tot other albums (I call them sub-albums). Each thumbnail contains an external link to that specific sub-album. When I click on the main page on an sub-album, the specific sub-album suddenly opens in a miniature size instead of the normal size.
However, when I enter the external link of that (sub) album directly into any browser, it opens correctly.
When the (sub) album opens in miniature I can scroll (difficult but possible), to the Start Slide show button or the pictures in there. Clicking starts the SS or opens photo's correctly.
this happens in preview mode as well in (any) browser.
When I change skin for the main album (e.g. Photo blogger) and keep Tiger for the sub albums the problem doesn't occur.
I can not imagine that I changed something in my current album settings, which I use now for a very long time (1 year at least). About 3 days ago it still worked fine.
Does anybody have an idea what happened here?
Thx for your help (btw I'm not familiar with html code or expressions, so please keep it simple)
External links supposed to behave like this since the beginning. Its main purpose is including a youtube or vimeo video into the album. What you might need is the so-called "web location" - which opens in a new window. (Right-click or Page+ button -> Web location)
Sorry Laza, but it always worked fine untill 3 days ago. Try the website, lex-brigitte.nl.
It also works when I choose another skin like Photo blogger.
But to follow your instructions:
I did create a Weblocation now, gave it a Target URL and an Image URL I don't see any Image URL coming on that tile, just a white folder icon with a Globe in the middle. Deleted the local album, created a new album. But I don't see it in the preview. Double clicking in Explore works, but how do I know it works when I upload it? I expect it to work the same way as a picture with an external link.
Yes Laza, thank you, but I already was that far.
In Explore I see the Web location with image AND globe and after Make album I don't see anything in in the preview. I expect (actually want) to see the image WITHOUT the globe in the center.
Why did it work fine my way all that time, despite you're saying that it shouldn't work?
Am I missing here something?
Please make a little test album, with just two web locations. Then zip up the whole project, upload the zip file somewhere, and give us a link to it. I suspect you're still doing something like entering an external link in Tiger. When you're using web locations, you should not do that. The URL is in the web location object itself, not in the skin settings.
I can't say why this was "working" before - it shouldn't have worked. On your site, the sub-albums are opening in a Tiger lightbox, which is not how things should behave. That produces some very confusing navigation, in which it's not clear where the "previous" and "next" arrows are going to take the visitor. When you click on a web location, the sub-album should open by itself, not embedded in something else.
External links supposed to behave like this since the beginning. Its main purpose is including a youtube or vimeo video into the album.
Laza - I faced this problem in some of my skins. I finally labeled that field Video host URL: YouTube or Vimeo. And then I ignore any entry that doesn't have "youtube.com" or "vimeo.com" in the URL, just to enforce it.
True, that might make it less flexible, but it might be worth the price. Letting users embed god-knows-what into lightboxes just lets them create Baffling Ordeal Albums™.
When you click on a regular image thumbnail, Tiger opens the image in a lightbox, and that's why that tab in the Tiger settings is labeled Lightbox. The background is dimmed out and you're shown the image as large as possible on your monitor. But you're never leaving the index page, the page of thumbnails. The image is sort of "floating" on top of it.
But when you're going to a sub-album, you don't want to do that. If you do, you end up with lightboxes from the sub-album being shown within a lightbox on the main page. That's what creates a bit of a mess. You just want to go to that sub-album page, on its own.
Hehe...pfff...that's it. It works now
Isn't that default ticked on?
Thank you very much! To be honest, that's the part of the Setting which I find most confusing. And not only to me. I have a lot of colleagues, using JAlbum and they all agree on that.
Header and footer are also sections for us. Hero is another section within the Header?
Is Lightbox part of the Header? All not clear unfortunately.
If you could give any clearification on that, I would appreciate that.
But, again, thanks for all the help!
Also thx to Laza ofcourse!
