Tiger, extrernal links to sub albums don't work anymore

Since 3 days I have the following problem with Tiger, which didn't exist on Jan 31 2020.
On my (photo) website I have a main paige (album) with thumbnails tot other albums (I call them sub-albums). Each thumbnail contains an external link to that specific sub-album. When I click on the main page on an sub-album, the specific sub-album suddenly opens in a miniature size instead of the normal size.
However, when I enter the external link of that (sub) album directly into any browser, it opens correctly.
When the (sub) album opens in miniature I can scroll (difficult but possible), to the Start Slide show button or the pictures in there. Clicking starts the SS or opens photo's correctly.

this happens in preview mode as well in (any) browser.
When I change skin for the main album (e.g. Photo blogger) and keep Tiger for the sub albums the problem doesn't occur.

I can not imagine that I changed something in my current album settings, which I use now for a very long time (1 year at least). About 3 days ago it still worked fine.

Does anybody have an idea what happened here?

Thx for your help (btw I'm not familiar with html code or expressions, so please keep it simple)

External links supposed to behave like this since the beginning. Its main purpose is including a youtube or vimeo video into the album. What you might need is the so-called "web location" - which opens in a new window. (Right-click or Page+ button -> Web location)

Sorry Laza, but it always worked fine untill 3 days ago. Try the website, lex-brigitte.nl.
It also works when I choose another skin like Photo blogger.

But to follow your instructions:
I did create a Weblocation now, gave it a Target URL and an Image URL I don't see any Image URL coming on that tile, just a white folder icon with a Globe in the middle. Deleted the local album, created a new album. But I don't see it in the preview. Double clicking in Explore works, but how do I know it works when I upload it? I expect it to work the same way as a picture with an external link.

Please follow the steps in the attached screenshots:

  • webloc1-2 shows how you enter the site URL.
  • webloc3-5 shows how you enter the image URL.
  • webloc6 shows the resulting thumbnail in Explore.
  • webloc7 shows the finished album (I didn't bother to put a proper title/comment on it).

It's very important to click Update at each step.

Also, if you need to edit a web location, don't double-click on the thumbnail in Explore - that will just take you to the website. Instead, hover on the thumbnail, and choose More... Edit.

Yes Laza, thank you, but I already was that far.
In Explore I see the Web location with image AND globe and after Make album I don't see anything in in the preview. I expect (actually want) to see the image WITHOUT the globe in the center.
Why did it work fine my way all that time, despite you're saying that it shouldn't work?
Am I missing here something?

Please make a little test album, with just two web locations. Then zip up the whole project, upload the zip file somewhere, and give us a link to it. I suspect you're still doing something like entering an external link in Tiger. When you're using web locations, you should not do that. The URL is in the web location object itself, not in the skin settings.

I can't say why this was "working" before - it shouldn't have worked. On your site, the sub-albums are opening in a Tiger lightbox, which is not how things should behave. That produces some very confusing navigation, in which it's not clear where the "previous" and "next" arrows are going to take the visitor. When you click on a web location, the sub-album should open by itself, not embedded in something else.

And I'm not Laza, BTW. ;)

Sorry jGromit,

I'm thinking about that uploading of a zipfile. Not something I do everyday.

But I can show you:

I have no idea what you mean with "....The URL is in the web location object itself.....

I'm working on a test album.

A-ha! There's something odd about the way jAlbum is handling the representing image from your site. I'm not sure whether it's a site configuration problem, or a jAlbum problem.

When I enter your site URL:

https://www.lex-brigitte.nl/2019-08%20Tanzania/

jAlbum can't extract an image for it. It's trying to use this:

http://www.lex-brigitte.nl/2019-08%20Tanzania/folderthumb.jpg

No image, alas. But if I just change it to https, it grabs the image:

https://www.lex-brigitte.nl/2019-08%20Tanzania/folderthumb.jpg

Then I just Make Album in Tiger and I get a properly-working album.

If you're trying to use an image from your site for the web location, try using https instead of http.

See screenshot. The URL is in the web location. It shouldn't be entered in the Tiger External box.

Laza - I faced this problem in some of my skins. I finally labeled that field Video host URL: YouTube or Vimeo. And then I ignore any entry that doesn't have "youtube.com" or "vimeo.com" in the URL, just to enforce it. ;)

True, that might make it less flexible, but it might be worth the price. Letting users embed god-knows-what into lightboxes just lets them create Baffling Ordeal Albums™.

I'm totally lost.
You say I use http instead of https? Not in the example of the Target URL and the Image URL I showed you.
And Laza already told me to leave the external link blank.

jAlbum can't extract an image for it. ?????, works fine to me. When I enter it, it opens correctly It's trying to use this:
http://www.lex-brigitte.nl/2019-08%20Tanzania/folderthumb.jpg ==> Not my experience.
No image, alas. But if I just change it to https, it grabs the image:
https://www.lex-brigitte.nl/2019-08%20Tanzania/folderthumb.jpg When I do that, copy/paste what you did, I still have the same result ==> nothing in the preview or on the site.
Then I just Make Album in Tiger and I get a properly-working album.
If you're trying to use an image from your site for the web location, try using https instead of http.

Please see my attachment and see if is correct according to you.
It doesn't work for me.
https://www.lex-brigitte.nl/Photos%20Main%20Page/ has 2 Web locations for test.

And btw, what is a Lightbox? I searched the internet, coming with this:
Lightbox is a JavaScript library that displays images and videos by filling the screen, and dimming out the rest of the web page.

Is that how you also meant it?

OK, that looks correct. You should now be able to click Make Album, and Tiger will produce the album. Here's the album I get when I do that:

https://jgromit.jalbum.net/lexTest/

The "return" arrow on your album isn't coming back to my "album of albums," of course, since I can't change your albums.

Is this not working for you?

ETA: Found it. Under Tiger > Sections > Folders, you have checked Hide web locations. Uncheck that, and make the album again. ;)

When you click on a regular image thumbnail, Tiger opens the image in a lightbox, and that's why that tab in the Tiger settings is labeled Lightbox. The background is dimmed out and you're shown the image as large as possible on your monitor. But you're never leaving the index page, the page of thumbnails. The image is sort of "floating" on top of it.

But when you're going to a sub-album, you don't want to do that. If you do, you end up with lightboxes from the sub-album being shown within a lightbox on the main page. That's what creates a bit of a mess. You just want to go to that sub-album page, on its own.

Hehe...pfff...that's it. It works now :-)
Isn't that default ticked on?

Thank you very much! To be honest, that's the part of the Setting which I find most confusing. And not only to me. I have a lot of colleagues, using JAlbum and they all agree on that.

Header and footer are also sections for us. Hero is another section within the Header?
Is Lightbox part of the Header? All not clear unfortunately.
If you could give any clearification on that, I would appreciate that.

But, again, thanks for all the help!
Also thx to Laza ofcourse!
