Well I can't get it to work!

I'm evaluating jAlbum with WordPress and jAlbum Bridge. I just cannot get it to work, despite carefully reading all the how to's and posts here on the forum. It seems like it ought to be super easy but here I am, hours later, tearing out what little hair remains...

I've got a tiny test page at
https://g3wgv.com/wordpress/station-information/

and in it the following jAlbum_Bridge link

The album is uploaded at http://www.g3wgv.com/album and the tree.json file is confirmed to be there.

As far as I can see I should be up and running, but no, whatever I do I get an error message suggesting that there is no tree.json file.

Would the fact that I am running a 30 day evaluation version of jAlbum be relevant? Is there a compatibility problem with the Gromit skin? Can anyone point this ageing techie in the right direction?

Welcome to the wonderful world of modern webpage security! The attached screenshot tells part of the story. Your page is a secure page, using https. But your "call" to the album is insecure, using http. Browsers these days won't let you do that. Change the URL in that plugin to https, and you should have better luck.

You'll also need to make sure both your Wordpress page and your album are on the same domain. Guess what! Turns out that g3wgv.com and www.g3wgv.com aren't regarded as being the same thing.

So, the URL for the album should be https://g3wgv.com/album/

(BTW, the page has a similar problem loading a Google font - the call is insecure, using http, so the font won't load - and with a couple of other resources having nothing to do with the jAlbum Bridge issue.)

Well blow me... it works! Thanks Mr Gromit, that was a great help. I sort of knew these things and thought I had tried them all but obviously not in the right order... or something.

It's all a bit different from my yoof when soldering irons and oscilloscopes were the order of the day and web sites and all that nonsense was all still sci-fi. Keeps the ol' grey matter active though, which can't be a bad thing.

I appreciate your help.

The latest version of the plugin (1.1) changes the album URL to https: if called from a https: page. They don't have to be on the same domain, but in that case you'll have to give CORS permission (Cross Origin Resource Sharing). If they're on the same domain it's enough to use the root path: "/album"

Thanks for the info folks. Now I'm on a bit of a roll, can I ask some more dumb questions?

I can't see a way to view the photo in situ on the Wordpress page. I can link out to the original album but not, it seems, click on a thumbnail to see a larger picture.
On type=grid I worked out that you can set the gap between pictures with gap= but I don't see the gap drop down in the plugin's edit box. Am I missing something again?
Videos in the album just show up as jpg images - I guess that's related to my first point - in order to play the video you have to go to the album page.

I'm interested to understand better how this plugin is intended to work and whether my observations are fair. No criticism of the plugin is intended!

The plugin is showing a preview of the images in the album. It doesn't have any of the functionality of the album itself. That's why, for example, the plugin would always look the same, no matter what skin you had used to make the album. It's just grabbing some images to lure the unsuspecting site visitor to visit the real album, where he is overwhelmed by the anticlimactic nature of the whole experience.

Don't know about the "gap" thingie.

The plugin was updated yesterday afternoon (CET), so you have to upgrade first to get the gap feature.
