You ever used a Lightroom? Clicked on Map? Ever saw a group of photos which are near?
If not, pls do!

In the image you've attached, there are almost 100 locations. What order should they be in?

1.
45°1'52" N 13°41'51" E
45°1'60" N 13°41'44" E

2.
45°4'9" N 13°38'9" E
45°4'11" N 13°38'11" E

This is 4 example pics I have.
I grouped it for a purpose.

I don't see any aggressiveness in the responses to your suggestion :-)

Perhaps you can be a little clearer about a suggested algorithhm for sorting in your proposed sequence.

Can you help us to understand your proposal by providing an example?

For example - can you put some GPS co-ordinates into a spreadsheet and sort them into your proposed order, then attach the sorted spreadsheet to a post?

I hope you can see this as "friendly thinking" :-)

Here is an extreme example of the sorting problem

Take three locations, two in Rovinj, Croatia (from your first example), and one in Romania.
45°1'52" N 13°41'51" E
45°1'60" N 13°41'44" E
45°1'52" N 23°41'51" E

What sorting criteria would you use to prevent the Romanian location (exactly the same latitude as your first Croatian example, but much further east)
from being sorted between the two Croatian locations?

45°1'52" N 13°41'51" E
45°1'52" N 23°41'51" E
45°1'60" N 13°41'44" E

AI has come a long way, but pattern recognition is still something that the human brain does much, much better than any algorithm. I suspect that a seven-year-old could figure out how to group locations on a map better than most coded solutions.

There is another complication to sorting by location, that of deciding what to do with locations just either side of the equator or the Greenwich meridian. Picking a reference location would make a big difference to how they were sorted compared with just using the positional values alone.

How about if this ordering simply ordered images by distance to a given location. One could for instance select one image and then order the other images in relation to the distance to this image.

I think this might be a lot of effort for only marginal results.

A quick example of how it could go horribly wrong - I start at the marker on the attached map, and walk a circle, taking shots at A, B, C, etc. But if you order those by distance from the starting point, the sequence would be I, A, H, B, G, C, F, D, E. Not exactly what you had in mind!

Just a gut feeling, but I think it would go wrong more often than it would go right. If someone is documenting his travels, sorting by camera date is actually more likely to give you the result you're after.
