Hi !

jAlbum saves "Comment" and "Keywords" that are added by user in meta.properties and/or description.properties files.

Is there are any way, that jA saves them (also) in corespondent IPTC-fields of original pictures ?

So user wouldn't need to start external editor for adding a keyword each time, and jAlbum would enhance to IPTC-Editor. ;)

jAlbum will write only xmp metadata. First, under Tools, Preferences, Album, Image editing, check Write xmp metadata to files.

If you enter a comment, it's saved as xmp.dc:description[1]. Keywords you enter are saved as xmp.dc:subject[1] (and [2], [3], etc.).

If you then tell jAlbum to use xmp as a comment source, it can access those fields if you add that image to another project. See the first checkbox under Settings > Advanced > Metadata.

Thank You jG ! :)

I think, the easier/safer way would be to save IPTC data in original file.
But jAlbum never edit/change original files (except of file operations copy, move, delete), isn't it ?

Well, xmp is the future (the "x" stands for "eXstensible"), and IPTC is the past.

In this case, jAlbum actually will alter the original file, by writing the xmp metadata to it!

Apart from "xmp" being the future, we haven't seen a reliable library for editing existing binary EXIF and IPTC fields. These are the two reasons why we only create or edit the xmp fields of images (there are today xmp versions of the EXIF and IPTC fields, just so you know)
