Very minor, simple request, built in folder icon like the video icon

I could not help but notice the recent interest in a web based UI and would like to request a folder icon also be incorporated in the Setting > Images > Advanced tab to go along with the existing film/video icon. I think this would fit that goal and make things much easier for budding skin developers and be consistent with the existing jAlbum program. I could make use of such immediately with the Minimal skin.

If it was set off by default, skins that offer custom icons like Gromit would not be affected. Gromit's icon set I know is already quite sophisticated with adjustable sizing, positioning and transparency, but this would be a good base. As for design, I would suggest it fit around and look much like the existing video icon which received so much attention here .

So in essence, you would appreciate an option to have jAlbum superimpose a folder icon onto folder thumbnails of generated web albums just like the superimposed folder icon of jAlbum's Explore view?

I recently tried creating a folder thumbnail overlay but couldn't get it to work. The code worked when added to slide.htt but failed in index.htt.

So yes please save me from myself :) It would though be nice to be able to be able to provide your own overlay image. Could it be made to check in a skin's resource folder for a specific file and if not present use the built in overlay?

Yes, I'll look into this. It seems like a reasonable thing to support, especially if it unburdens skin developers from highlighting folders

I have in the past gotten around this by keeping the folder icon as the thumbnail image and putting the "folder representing image" as the thumbnail background.

It would be very useful and much appreciated.

I'd suggest the proposed folder icon overlay be consistent in size, design and application to the existing film icon (and unchecked by default).

Developers like jGromit and Jim Berry who have already developed creative folder overlays would then still be free to work on more sophisticated options.

I looked at your technique but having it done for you is much easier :)

For more flexibility, I've taken a different approach. I trot out the regular thumbnail image, but with position: relative;. Then I use an absolutely positioned image for the folder icon. That lets me adjust the position at will (even having it stand proud of the corner of the thumbnail), alter its size, alter its opacity, etc. Once you get it set up, tinkering with it becomes easy.

I agree that this would be a useful feature - some of the latest responsive skins, for example, have no indication of "folder-ness," and because of the way the layout is generated, adding it with HTML and CSS is not really possible.

It does, however, make it more important to have this old bug fixed: currently, if you select/de-select the video overlay, Make Album doesn't regenerate the thumbnail images. I've sometimes had to resort to manually deleting the output thumbnails. That wasn't a big deal because users would rarely change the setting. But with a folder overlay, the problem would become a lot worse.
