Hi,

the 8th time on Svalbard, the 7th time enjoying the Polarjazz Festival. This year with a very special concert because of the 100th anniversary of the "Svalbard Treaty" (Svalbardtraktaten).

Well known artist Bugge Wesseltoft from Norway was responsible for the musical part.

The whole concert was a once-in-a-life-time experience with an extraordinary light and film show and many other top artists.

This year I stayed there for 6 days, had one trip (with snow scooter) into the „void“.

31.01.2025 12:59 At „Elveneset“. We were very lucky that the sun gave us some beams in the south. Nevertheless at that time of the year you'll never see the sun over the horizon.

It is a very special place on the planet.

Hi,

I usually travel to Spitsbergen at the beginning of February, when the sun is already slowly returning, even if it's still far from rising above the horizon. But I'd long wanted to experience the polar night in all its full glory.

So, on November 24, 2025, I flew directly to Longyearbyen and spent a week there. And yes, it was significantly darker than at the beginning of February. Even with only light cloud cover, it was pitch black at noon, just as it was at midnight.

One day, I was lucky enough to see the Northern Lights at noon—very exciting.
