Video filters

is it possible to include some basic filters for the actual video it self?
1: Crop..preferably via a visual frame that can be dragged/resized
2: Brightness/intensity
(3+4: contrast + saturation)
Seem current filters only apply to stills/the thumbnail for the video..not for video it self

Using actionscam I have HD1080 but all very wide angle, so currently I have to 'detour' via Xmedia to corp = act as digital zoom .. no loss as long as I only crop down to the resolution I want JA to work with

The same actioncams are not very good in low light..so often I need to push the light a good bit for scenes indoors, in forest, in dusk etc.

Check out the feature set for the underlying ffmpeg encoder and see if you can apply the filters you need by passing parameters directly to it. If it turns out to be convenient then we may add UI controls for some of the more popular filters.

ok seems all is there https://www.ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-filters.html
..crop
..(even drawtext filter so logo setting from stills could be ported to video as well)
..however brightness seems to require several filters applied http://ffmpeg.gusari.org/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=663

but how do I pass parameters directly to the video (reformat or play) in JA?

ok took an example from
https://www.ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg-filters.html#crop
and input like -filter as written in
http://ffmpeg.org/ffmpeg.html#Filtering
i.e. (see also screenshot)
name: -filter
value : crop=w=100:h=100:x=12:y=34
It processes ok .. can see it chews on the video in my small test album (and can see it has generated a new video)..BUT in local preview I see no cropping of video??..i.e. crop filter was 'skipped' , though the advanced video settings change provoked a reprocessing of the video

how can I check that the crop filter is indeed invoked and ..that the libavfilter library is available

Monitor what's being written to the system console. Have debug mode on in order to see as much info as possible.

With "local preview", I assume that you preview the video within the album and not just double clicking the video file, cause that will only launch the original video in an external video player.

yes (or navigate to /album subfolder and click on it )

album has has only two items: two small videos, one in 'root' and one in a subfolder (original sideways -> was used to test JA abilty or rotate.)

consol/debug mode Turtle 4.3.3 and JA 11.4.1
well there is some exemptions and funny stuff it seems .. which I do not know how to interpret

That log looks pretty normal I'd say. See if you can get support for ffmpeg directly from the makers of ffmpeg.

Attachment ScreenShot431.jpg (23.0 KB)
ok got it to crop now..mimicking stuff from discussion in
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1147161

using -vf to call crop instead -filter?? (I do not know why)

it works wrt size of cropped area (i.e. area shown in video)..BUT it overwrites the default -vf string in JA/Video (see screen shot)..don't remember what I missed by this overwrite

so in principle it work w those 4 parameters (my guess us in Xmedia recode he just crudely passes user input xl,xr,htop, hbottom more or less directly to ffmpeg crop filter). It would be MUCH more user friendly porting the existing JA graphical UI for crop on stills -> to also work for the video, using call to ffmpeg crop

now next thing is how to do brightness .. I again have to make a call via -vf instead of -filter?

thanks

I have asked our ffmpeg maestro to comment on your questions. He's currently on vacation so it may take a while though.

Hi,

try adding something like this to the video filter string (-vf param):

mp=eq2=1.0:2:0.5

separating other filters with a comma like so:

-vf "mp=eq2=1.0:2:0.5,<other filters>"

The three values separated by : are gamma, brightness and contrast. Fiddle with these until you get the desired effect (The example should make the image lighter).

Ok I tried using these user entries wrt video coding = both crop and light etc can be set .. so basic functionality is there and is possible to control

BUT they are global settings!!! = all videos in album are treated the same (albeit it seems the not all associated TMH do change using such user settings? have in test folder an video in a subfolder here TMH does not change but video does)

this is not useful.

I need individual crop or light settings pr video = as I see it, settings needs to be passed individually via GUI just as the filters for the stills.

SO I repeat my request for including the basic filters for video via GUI just as is for the stills - else I am still forced to do outside processing via Xmedia Recode. You have lately done work 'under the hood' - would be nice if you had time to do something that reflects directly the users 'driving seat' now

Also on another note wrt wishes for the JA future
  • do not reprocess : is it possible to have JA do the processing first time round only (like setting start and stop time, do the compression etc) - and then in later makes JA does not process any more. So something like 'only process once/first time'
  • incl optimizations like MP4 Faststart (again to avoid having go external)
  • ultimately (but luckily not so often needed) 'repair' of anamorphic videos (avoid having to external and use Handbrake) http://jalbum.net/forum/thread.jspa?threadID=45829
  • the feature request of adding sound to stills, in threads http://jalbum.net/forum/thread.jspa?threadID=44687&tstart=0
and http://jalbum.net/forum/thread.jspa?threadID=44743&tstart=15&start=15

This is what jAlbum does now. It processes a video only the first time it encounters it. It's just like image processing - done only once, unless you change something.

This is already built in.

thanks for clarifying jGromit..I have not dared let JA do much video processing because of my needs for individual processing filters..but great some of these else manual steps are included in JA video processing

well the original thread about adding a sound clip to stills seems 'shuffled away' ??
"the feature request of adding sound to stills, in threads http://jalbum.net/forum/thread.jspa?threadID=44687&tstart=0 "

anyway the fuctionality is indeed handable now in
thread

https://www.markus-drueck.de/jAlbum/Pictures/jAlbum%20Core/index.html#img=2019-04-07_151518.jpg

BUT would like an simple JA menu option functionality to do it pr image (prompting for sound clip via search .. or able to dump such sound file onto image .. -> JA makes the audio tags and places sound file in res folder
