Yes I understand that skin controls output, but this is a deadlock.
There should be written some recomendation for skin developpers based on Jeff Tucker's comment.
The hints.jap file probably shouldn't contain anything more than things like a default style
(rather than the alphabetically first), and recommended image bounds. Using the same
bounds, especially for thumbnails, in one skin as in another can often produce very
unpleasing results.
Otherwise skin developper use documentation for reverse purpose.
There is already a note on the use of hints, but the documentation cannot force a skin developer to do the right thing. What André didn’t quote in his terse response was the note attached to the statement. The full note is:
You should generally not use hints for other things than image sizes and thumbnail sizes, rows and columns. Specifically don't use hints to change directories or scaling quality as this confuses the user. Hints are respected on users selecting a skin but not on loading a project.
