This seems to have happened after a critical update. I had made no changes to settings, was just adding photos to albums.

Please give me a link to an album that shows the problem.

Odd, because there haven't been any changes to the page coding for fixed-shape thumbnails in a long time. And critical jAlbum core updates can't have that kind of effect - the core doesn't produce the pages.

That link points to your own PC, which only you can see.

Uploading now. It's a long slow slog with a satellite connection.

I noticed that your upload was finished, so I started poking around. A quick run through a code validator showed me what the problem is. It's occurring in a few places throughout the album. You've entered a comment like this:
Common Whitetail :: <i>Plathemis lydia
Notice that the closing "italics" tag is missing. This creates invalid HTML and causes havoc with the page layout. As a quick experiment, I tried making the same mistake in a little test album and got an album that looks just as awful as yours, and in exactly the same way. Good confirmation for the source of the trouble. :)

To hunt down the errors, I think you'll find it easiest to switch to the Details view in Explore (one of the choices on the upper right). Viewing it that way, the missing italics closers become much easier to spot.

Just a quick look through the validator results, and the following folders all appear to have this error somewhere in them:

  • Insect Flight
  • Insect Flight/2021
  • Insect Flight/Blue Dasher
  • Bitter Lakes/National Wildlife Refuge/NM

There may be more....

There also seems to have been an uploading error that left behind one of the files that's needed for proper slide presentation, to wit, res/close.svg. Make sure that the "close X" is appearing in local preview, then hit the uploader again. Since you're using the jAlbum uploader, it should make quick work of uploading any missing files, even with your slow connection.

Thank you! I would NEVER have figured this one out myself. (Although I did try.) I have also screen shot your reply for the hints about detail and the upload issue. The errors will not be hard to find, they are only in the scientific names.

Cheers!

It gave me about 10 minutes of perplexed head-scratching.

That's the kind of error that you can stare at endlessly without ever actually seeing. ;)

Greetings! I just found another wrinkle in this, which is: The same errors persisted in one of my albums. About four fine tooth combs later, I found that occasionally a space sneaked in between the italicized text and the closing italics code. The result was the same as not having one. To spot this, I had to open the html editor and look closely.

I am now copying my scientific names from the web, pasting, then going to the html editor to italicize by selecting and hitting the italics control at the top. This seems to banish the pesky additions and subtractions. Fingers crossed, I should have no more trouble.
