Understanding the 'images' & 'videos'-footer

Hello all,
I like that fact that during creation of the webpages, I get a footer which shows the amount of images and videos included in the sub-page.
I am trying to understand when this footer occurs. My reason is the following:
-I have each year of family pictures in a separate 'year'-album. Some of these year-albums do not have the footer. I'd rather not upload the complete album again, so my question is to 'which files should I overwrite on my webpage after I have re-created the webpage'
-I have a 'main'-album which has only web-locations included. Each of these web-locations leads to one of the year-albums described before. Some of these web-location show the amount of images / videos in that year-album, while others do not. What should I 're-upload' or 're-create' to make sure that the main-album shows the footer for each year-album.
best regards,
Ruud

I am coming to the conclusion, that uploading all files in the folder together with the res-folder does the trick. I do not seem to need to upload all the months as well. This does save me time as my upload-speed is 'incredibly slow'.
As for the main-page, it looks like it is enough to 'update' the link in the web-location and upload the complete main-page again.
At least this worked for the years 2026 until 2022, so I will try to follow that for the rest of the years.
This is just an 'experience', not a real answer. So if somebody knows the magic behind it, I would still be thankful for this inside, though the pressure is 'gone' .

Hello Rob,
Thanks for that. To be honest, I did not know that jAlbum has this 'checking-mechanism' in its upload-procedure. I did not use the upload from jAlbum, at least almost did not. Reasoning is, that I had the feeling that it was slower than f.e. CoreFTP or WSFTP.
I guess I need to reconsider that decision .
I will try it on one of the older years, or I will re-upload a year that has already been uploaded. So it should show to be pretty fast than.

The first time you use the jAlbum uploader to upload an album, it has to check all the files (what's up there, what's newer, etc.), so it will take about the same amount of time as using something like FileZilla. It doesn't have to upload everything again, but it does need to traverse the directory tree on the server.
But the uploader leaves a "manifest" file on the server, so the next time it uploads the album, it doesn't have to go through all the files on the server. It knows, instantly, which files need to be uploaded.
My big family album is a good example. The entire album is almost 7GB and 13,000 files. But if I'm just adding a few recent photos, the album upload takes about 15 seconds. It takes longer to establish the connection than it does to upload the updated files.
The other thing the jAlbum uploader does is that it deletes files that are no longer needed (e.g., you've deleted some images or changed some folder or file names). It doesn't leave "orphan" files sitting on the server.

Hello Jeff,
Thanks for that answer!!
I have been 'playing around' with this yesterday and can completely confirm that my judgement on upload-speed was wrong. I like the end-result of uploading after minor changes. The fact that this method even deletes or orphan-files is a big benefit. I did not know this and definitely like this a lot. With my method until now, I have been deleting complete folders because I did not want to bother to find the single files which needed deletion, so certainly this is much better.
So overall, thanks jAlbum for solving the home-made issue, which was not really an issue at all.
Now the only thing left is how do I tell this webpage, that both Rob and yourself have given not only helpful answers, but solved the issue. I am 'afraid' that only one of you gets the 'price', although you both were extremely helpful. Thanks to the both of you!!
Best regards,
Ruud

Hello Rob,
Thanks for the links.
As I was uploading yesterday a couple of times, I am familiar with the process, so the links were to no additional advantage, but thanks anyway.
I have clicked on 'correct' nonetheless, although I already marked the thread as answered.
I might still not know which files were the reason the footer was not available at all of my webpages, that has been solved by Re-uploading the respective pages and 'updating' the link on my main-page. So topic solved, thank you and Jeff for the support, highly appreciated.

Yes, once I saw it in action on a large album project, I became a convert. I still use FileZilla for other uploading tasks, where the jAlbum manifest doesn't come into play, but for jAlbum albums, it's a huge time-saver, especially if your upload speed is very slow.
Glad it's working out for you.
