A compliment to the developer

After the update to version 2.1.6, I want to praise the developer. The main picture with the scaling "Fit" adapts itself completely to the screen in the end position. Now my digitally edited pictures can be seen in full. That's what I wished for.
Many Thanks!

Thanks - I believe this latest approach is the closest to what users expect.

I just upgraded to jAlbum 38 Pro, and unfortunately, I have to take back my earlier compliment to developer Lazarus. The images no longer fit properly into the browser window at the end, the Ken Burns effect is running very choppily, the image titles are much too large, and my custom HTML code doesn’t work anymore. I’ve therefore gone back to jAlbum 19 Pro with Animatics 2.1.6 — much smoother and more reliable!

First, there's no reason to go back to jAlbum 19. That will have no effect on how an Animatics album displays itself. The jAlbum core doesn't produce a single line of HTML, CSS, or Javascript - that's all done by the skin. In short, you can update to jAlbum 38, but continue to use an older version of Animatics.
I just ran a quick test of Animatics, and the display of the Ken Burns effect is smooth as silk, and the images fit the browser window without issue. The image titles don't appear to be unusually large.
I think you may be running into a situation in which the browser is stubbornly using a cached version of the Javascript file that powers the album, and maybe even a cached version of the CSS file. Do some aggressive cache-clearing of your browser before concluding that there's a problem. A simple CTRL-F5 might not do the trick - you need to get into the browser settings and tell it to delete all cached images and files (you can leave everything else alone, like cookies, history, passwords, etc.).
I can't speak to your custom code, since I don't know what that consists of. But since there have been so many changes since Animatics 2.1.6, I'm not at all surprised that the custom code no longer works.

It also occurs to me that your custom code, from an earlier era, might be interfering with the proper display of the album. So, try removing it.

Does your result with the new version look the same as it does on my website surrealismus.org?

Yes, if I copy your settings.
ETA: Demo. Some of my standard test images aren't really large enough, so some of them won't fill the monitor:
(demo album removed)
ETA: Your custom CSS won't work, however. The CSS classes are different in the current skin version.

Exactly what you experienced with my settings happened to me as well after upgrading — both on my screen with different browsers and on my smartphone! The images no longer fit entirely into the browser window at the end, the Ken Burns effect runs very choppily, the image titles are far too large, and my custom HTML code stopped working. After reverting to jAlbum 19 Pro with Animatics 2.1.6, everything worked smoothly again, just as before.

I'm sorry, but that's manifestly not what I've experienced. I'm not seeing any problem with images not fitting into the browser window, and I'm not seeing anything "choppy." The Ken Burns transitions are all smooth as glass. The image titles, if anything, are a bit smaller than I would like - screenshot attached.
I'm just not seeing any problem at all with an Animatics album with jAlbum 38 and Animatics 4.0. I don't know what you're seeing, or why, but there's nothing wrong with jAlbum or with the skin.

And here's a movie of the show in my browser:
(screen video removed)
No choppiness, no overly-large titles, no images that don't fit (the full-sized original of the 1937 Delage isn't big enough to fill the screen, so of course the scaled image isn't large enough to do that, either).

I understand that your setup may behave differently, but I can assure you the issues I described are very real on my end. What you call “approximately fitting” images and “slight choppiness” might seem acceptable to you — for me, however, it’s clearly distracting and breaks the smooth presentation I had before. The difference is obvious across several browsers and even on my smartphone.
With jAlbum 38 and Animatics 4.0, the images no longer fit completely into the browser window at the end, and the Ken Burns effect stutters noticeably. The oversized titles and non-functioning custom HTML add to the frustration. After reverting to jAlbum 19 Pro with Animatics 2.1.6, everything runs perfectly again — exactly as expected.
While your configuration may appear fine, these issues are not isolated, and they significantly affect usability and presentation quality on my system. It’s also possible that your smaller images are not high-resolution HiDPI files, which could explain why you’re not seeing the same performance problems.

Those would not be acceptable to me. Fortunately, I'm seeing neither of them.
I've given it the ultimate test, an album with only the original, full-sized, multi-megabyte images. Not even any scaling. They're typically around 4000x3000 px, and anywhere from 4MB to 7MB each. Viewing them in the U.S., on a 7-year-old desktop PC with an obsolete WiFi card, from the jAlbum AWS server (in Stockholm, I believe), I get no stuttering, no choppiness, no problems.
(test album deleted)
There's something wrong either with your computer or your internet connection. I can't diagnose them remotely. Best of luck.

Thank you for your test, Jeff. I just watched your animation, and interestingly, it does stutter quite noticeably on my system. In contrast, my own animation created with jAlbum 19 Pro and Animatics 2.1.6 runs perfectly smoothly on three different computers here — using various browsers and internet connections.
Even when using a direct LAN cable connection, playback of my own animation isn’t completely stutter-free, but it’s still noticeably smoother than your version.
Furthermore, I had also created my pages earlier with Animatics 4, and those showed the same kind of choppiness I now see in your “anitest.” This reinforces my impression that the problem is related to the newer Animatics version rather than my hardware or connection.

I get a perfectly smooth, stutter-free show, on multiple platforms. But oddly, Firefox doesn't do well with it, whereas Brave and Chrome are fine. Firefox usually provides the best rendering of a site. Surprising.

I’ve tried it with Firefox, Edge, and Chrome — same result. Somehow, we’re not getting any closer to the cause. For me, jAlbum 19.1 with Animatics 2.1.6 remains the perfect solution.
