From Window to Apple problem

Good morning everyone.
I have a question.
I've switched from Windows to Apple.
In Windows, to save space on my laptop, I use an SSD drive to store my albums. This works perfectly.
I want to do the same on my new Mac Air.
When I start Jalbum on my Mac, it sees the external SSD drive and the albums are visible.
The problem is adding images and creating new albums. (See screenshot)
It seems there's a write-protection issue or the path to the SSD drive isn't correct.
I've tried several options, of course.
Does anyone know a solution?
Kind regards, Gerard Spaans Sportsphotography

Thanks for your reply.
I had already looked at this option, but it didn't work.
With this option, I included the SSD drive as the subfolders.
Unfortunately, this isn't the solution.
Thanks.

I can open a project stored on an SSD, see attached for the SSD and albumfiles.txt file.
(I double clicked on the 'jalbum-settings.jap' to launch jAlbum and open the project.)

How is the SSD formatted? Mine is APFS with owners enabled. I run my Mac as admin, there is only one account to sign in to.

If still unresolved post the full error message, there might be more useful detail in it.

Since you switched from Windows, there is a chance that your SSD has the NTFS format. Support for NTFS in macOS is only partial; it can only be read and is mounted as read-only.

I suspected that was the case but have always used Mac’s. Just searched the web and found this on Apple discussion forum, about enabling write permission. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/253707407?sortBy=rank

I think if there is another copy of all the files then reformatting to Apple’s system would be the best option.

That would be my suggestion as well.

Gerard might want to read about the difference between the two file systems, especially as APFS is specifically designed for SSD’s
One source, many more on the web, is https://www.geekboots.com/story/understanding-mac-file-system-a-comparison-with-windows

Thanks for the replies.
The problem was indeed an incorrect file format on the SSD drive.
I formatted the SSD drive to exFAT and now everything works fine.

Yes, exFAT is OK with both operating systems. Just be careful about unplugging it, because exFAT is a little more prone to file system corruption if you just yank out the cable. You're OK if you tell either OS to "dismount" the drive - that will flush the I/O cache, and everything is fine.
