Missing skin message when updating old albums

I am going through the process of updating some old albums and I find that - although the process works well and they are now using the Tiger skin as I want them to - every time I click to open the old album in jAlbum I get a message "The DPL version 3 skin is missing - do you want to get it?".

This is a minor inconvenience, but I would like to to know if I can fix it - currently I just say "no" and carry on.

I have tried to find where the old skin might be referenced, but with no luck so far - any suggestions would be much appreciated!

If you have an archived copy of the skin you could install it, there is no archive available on jAlbum’s site.

If you only have a few albums you could edit the jAlbum settings.jap file, replacing DPL with Tiger.

I’ll move this to the feature request, it would be better to have the option of selecting a different skin when the message pops up.

Wouldn't that be even more intrusive? Now, it's just one click, and you can move on.

I'm not sure what would be better. When you open a project that uses a missing skin, you certainly wouldn't want the core to automatically switch to the current default skin, since that would wipe out any settings from the previous skin, and you might want to reinstall the old skin and rescue the settings. But having to manually choose a new skin every time would be more annoying than what it does now.

The original poster could contact the help desk to get a copy of DPL 3, just to reinstall it temporarily. It's no longer in the repository (it was a Flash skin), but I know that Anders never truly deletes anything. ;)

Thanks for the responses - I edited the settings file. What was strange was that the album seemed to be working with the Tiger skin - even though it had the legacy skin in the settings file.

I do have a few albums like that, but it is an easy change to make to get rid of the prompt.

When you change the skin of a project, the legacy settings are discarded (without warning), and the default settings from the newly-chosen skin are substituted for them.

OK - so where I seem to have gone wrong is that I opened the legacy project, saw that it had changed to Tiger, so made the album - which worked OK - but at no point did I re-save the project.

Should you get a prompt to save after having changed the settings in that way?

You should get a prompt to save, but that's not entirely reliable. You get into the habit of hitting CTRL-S after making and previewing the album, just to be safe.

You could enable to option to save project on make album, under Preferences>Project>Save project on make album

But read the warning about project backup files!
