David, the menu entry for preferences is now showing 'Settings...' instead of 'Preferences...'.
Attached screen grab.

Must be an OS thing. On my creaky macOS 11.7.10 (the highest I can get on my Air), it still reads Preferences...

Rob, what OS X version are you on? I'm on v12.7.2 and my jAlbum menu shows "Preferences" (which is correct)

Not really, I already knew that ;) But my old creaky laptop was on its last legs and this new one was bought with a £150 off - I just couldn't resist.

The only texts property that has 'Settings...' is share.settings=Settings... However, changing that text entry does not affect the menu item. I've tried several earlier jAlbum versions, going back as far as 30.0.3 and the menu still shows 'Settings...' instead of preferences. I never noticed it before.

Apple must have decided to change from "Preferences" to "Settings". Stupid move as these two usually have distinct different meanings in a software, including jAlbum

("settings" are project/gallery related stuff while "preferences" are software related stuff like UI language, logging level etc)

That does seem to be the case. A quick search on preferences changed to settings throws up several results. On Reddit one response said ‘It was to simplify the language and make it consistent with iOS.’ I think Apple should think different and change it back.

Makes it even more fun for anyone trying to write a wiki, or provide instructions to a user.

Select Tools > Preferences (Windows), jAlbum > Settings (newer macOS), or jAlbum > Preferences (older macOS).

I don't much care which it is, but it would be nice to get them all looking about the same. Maybe Windows needs a new menu bar entry for jAlbum, with About jAlbum, Settings, and Quit jAlbum, and remove those entries from their current menu locations. That would leave only older Macs with something slightly different.

I probably should have grabbed a Macbook Air 15" for $1049 vs. Apple's $1299 when I had the chance - that special deal has now vanished. My 2013 Air is in good condition, but....

I just updated the first note at https://jalbum.net/help/en/JAlbum/Menus to read:
‘For Mac OS 13 (Ventura) and above the menu name is changed to “Settings”’.

Eventually it can just be replaced, maybe when you and David splash the cash :)

I was going to get a MacBook Air 15” but with the deal the pro was the same cost.

I believe this was delivered to jAlbum World Headquarters, but I think someone swiped it. Probably Anders.
