'Top Bar' questions while finding my way around jAlbum with PhotoBlogger
Posted: 9 Jan 24, 02:46

Hi,
I have been working on porting collections of items (each item described by multiple images, pdf, gif and repair notes) to a jAlbum. This is a hobby, not a commercial effort. While this is different from digital assets, I really like where it led me and what can be done - thanks to the developers and the community!

My first questions are concerning the Top Bar:
1 - can the space to the side of the logo image be used and how - for example additional external links?

2 - Logo file 'lost': Insert a logo image, it show in the current album
Then, save as default for skin settings or import settings
Now making a new album (file name showing correctly) leads to a broken logo link. (I can easily re-select, so not a real problem, but am I missing a setting?)

Thank-you, Wolfgang

Logo files get added (in the background) to the specific album project. They're not part of the "settings," which are just the entries you've made in the UI. So when you "save as default," things like added logo images don't come along for the ride. The name of the file is remembered, but the file itself isn't there. You have to delete and re-add it.

You don't have to remove and re-add the image, just copy/paste the logo file into the "res" folder of the image directory (Ctrl-Shift-I).

Using only the reference misled users too, because they thought they could remove the logo file from the original place after added.

How Photoblogger works is wrong another way: you can't import the settings from one project to another.

Ah, yes, I'd forgotten that you handle those kinds of added files that way. In my skins, I use an invisible disk cache, so there's no res folder created in the project. That also means that when the user clicks Remove, the disk cache takes care of getting rid of the copied file.

I'll leave the question of additional links next to the logo to you, but I suspect that would be very difficult. It's not just a little CSS tweaking. ;)

There is not always the same space available for the logo and around on different monitors. Adding extra elements can only be done by modifying the skin code that makes the top bar. However, doing so the upcoming skin updates will overwrite your changes. So, it would be easier to use one of the many other places where you can add external links.
