I was using PIWIGO gallery software (CMS) but on discovering jAlbum I decided to try the free version, and then purchased. :). I have my own server, so welcome to my basement.

Link: https://gallery.soft-focus-imagining.com/

One of the main reasons for the swap over was the amount of disk space required to run PIWIGO if you have a very large sprawling gallery. What was eating up 70 Gigabytes I've now managed to get down to 20 Gigabytes. All images converted and used as .webp (videos webm).

There's a few things I need to investigate (like why did the sitemap not include the URL) but these are the normal teething problems on learning new software.

Kind Regards, Nigel.

Well-done, especially for a newbie!

One suggestion: on a typical large monitor, text that runs the full width of the monitor tends to be tough to read. In short, your eyes lose track of what line you're on, so you tend to "miss" the next line when you scan back to the left side.

Easily remedied. You can head for Photoblogger > Advanced > Custom code > CSS and enter:
.custom-content {max-width: 900px; margin: 0 auto;}
Looks better, and is a lot easier to read.

Oh, and Lots of photographs shouldn't have an apostrophe, unless these are photos that belong to Lot (and in that case it would be Lot's photographs, of course). Yes, I'm a pedant. ;)

Jeff,

Thank you kindly. Not bad from knowing nothing about jAlbum three days ago! The main issue I ran into was some of the "skins" did some strange things! Well, they didn't exactly do what I thought that option would do! Rebuild both my massive web sites (one I cannot mention here as it's adult in nature) but has the same look and feel as the gallery link.

Kind Regards, Nigel Lot's Lots' Aves.

I don't provide a sitemap in my skins, and don't use one in any of my albums, but this rings a bell.

At the time of album creation, jAlbum doesn't know what the URL of the finished album will be. To compensate for this, the skin provides a place to tell it what the address will be. See Photoblogger > Advanced > Site admin > Upload path. That field name is a bit of a misnomer - it's not really the upload path - it's the web address of the finished album.

So, filling that in with a full, absolute URL, including protocol, and hitting Make album again might fix this issue.

Jeff,

Thanks for the pointer. That option Photoblogger > Advanced > Site admin > Upload path does fix the issue. The explanation is a tad strange, looks like it is "just" for Facebook.

I do have one question that I'm sure you can answer. I've upload the site using the built in FTP. When I add new folders / photographs does it "just" move the updated files or will the entire site be re-uploaded.

Many Thanks,

Nigel.

The jAlbum uploader is "smart" - it will upload only what it needs to. In fact, because it uses a manifest file to keep track of what it uploaded most recently, it ends up being a lot faster than an FTP client like FileZilla. It doesn't have to laboriously check the timestamp on every file on the server.

Just make sure that you stay away from Settings > Advanced > General > Process only updated subdirectories. Sounds like a fine thing, but with JSON-driven skins like Photoblogger, particularly if you're including a sitemap, that option can produce a broken album. Not choosing this doesn't mean that it will reprocess all the images, which would result in a massive re-upload - but it will take another stab at each folder, so that it gets a correct JSON tree for the whole album.

Always play it safe:
