About.htt contents

I built a Story album upon the sample album provided with jalbum and
there is a "About.htt" file which shows the jalbum logo and some text.
Where does the text come from? I cannot see it in the editor and the comment
field is also empty. Whole different story for "Instructions.htt" where everything
is filled into the comment field with html markup.

That About.htt file is simply part of the Sample Portfolio. Double-clicking the thumbnail for it in the Explore view brings up the page editor, where you can change the text. You can, of course, just delete it and add your own.
I don't see any jAlbum logo on it, however, so I'm not sure what you're looking at.

The Sample Project, see attached, has the text and logo already populated for the 'About' template. If either is missing it must be that the original has been removed and the project saved.

As always, my bad. I always chose "Edit" from the top menu for "About.htt" which subsequently opened the screenshot from the attachment. If I doubleclick, I am seeing the actual text and image content. Thanks for elaborating.

A-ha! I would not have predicted that behavior (I handle things like this very differently in my own skins, so I never use the "page templates" mechanism). In theory, all "edit" choices should behave the same way, but in this case, they clearly don't!
I think I would label this a jAlbum bug. A user would almost never want to edit the internal code of a page template.

Since jAlbum 20.2 (June 2020) web page templates are added as links. Trying to edit the link results in a popup window, telling you you are attempting to edit a skin file and to work on a copy (convert the link to a file). Opening the template for data entry is just double click the thumbnail or select 'open' from the menu.
So not a bug. Full instructions for template page usage

"Functioning as intended," yet here we have a user who's been led down the garden path by it.

It's much better to create a new project and import the Sample portfolio settings. The Instructions.htt should not be part of other people's albums.
Instead of editing the templates, it's much easier to edit the Title and Comment fields (use Details mode). You'll see the Instructions page was made by using those fields too.
