How to have the Search window always come up empty

Once you access the search button and enter in search terms, returning to the search button shows everything you last entered. You then have to backspace out the text to enter a new search.
Is there a way to force the search button to produce an empty field each time it is accessed?

Yes, good idea. The box should be cleared after you close the search results. It might remain as long as the results are displayed in order to allow finetuning the search.

Sounds like an even better idea

Retain search while search open

Clear Search once search closed.
