Improving on Error Feedback

I started a new project and to start inadvertently dragged in a HEIC file. Nothing appeared in the Explore window. Jeff in his ever tactful manner suggested I check the tiny little triangle in the lower right corner of the window to show any errors.

When I told him Rob had previously and unsuccessfully tried to get me to look for the triangle and or System Console jibberish - my Swedish is very weak - an idea emerged:

When the tiny little triangle appears why not have Dor do his/her "ribbit" thing as a gentle alert that all things are not perfect? A color change (like with the new audio icon) wouldn't hurt either.

I'll consider it. The triangle could at least be more visible.

Maybe a user preference setting for the ribbit? I would keep it turned on, because I really need to know it there's been an error, and I often overlook the warning triangle. But there are some random console errors, usually not easily reproduced, that a user can safely ignore, so a user might want to turn off the sound.

If you go for a preference setting would having the sound occur depending on the logging be of use. Alert me on ‘Warning’ or ‘Severe’ events, for example.

I'm not sure they're quite the same thing, though I don't fully understand why. Some of the "triangle" warnings appear to be accompanied by error dumps that don't seem to have any warning "level" attached to them. Tough to explain, but I'll see if I can spot an example....

What triggers the triangle to appear is whenever things are sent to the System.err stream. That stream has no knowledge about warning levels, but I'll consider adding an optional "ribbit" sound or changing the color.
