Fast? Not really. It took 19 minutes and 11 seconds to complete the index for 51,000 objects. And what is worse than waiting once more than 19 minutes to complete the index. Everytime I invoke the search again, after closing and reopening the album, it takes again ~19 minutes to build that index.

Opened project 'Bilder' containing 66,621 objects and tried search with both 'Index album objects' and 'Index metadata' enabled. Search form opens without delay and search is instantaneous.

My experience is similar, though with a couple of projects that are more in the 5000 objects range, not 50,000.

But my comments are things like "Ryan and Caroline at Cape Cod, May, 2019." For a similar image, MarkusD would have a comment that included the entire geological history of Cape Cod (did you know that it's a gigantic terminal moraine, a remnant of the last ice age?), tide tables for Truro, a webcam pointed at the Provincetown pier, Ryan's report cards from kindergarten through third grade, and a video of Caroline's latest fabulous dance recital.

That's why I suggested turning off the metadata indexing. ;)

I've now implemented a function that remembers the last selected item. To try it, perform a core update. You can also replace texts/texts.properties with this one . After the update, open Preferences and tick "Remember last selected item". Now you can give this a try :-)

This small update also fixes an issue whereby searching for an item by name wouldn't work if you hadn't navigated to the containing folder previously.

Works good; I like it.

In fact, I think I'd enable it by default. In a typical one- or two-level album, it would make little or no difference, and in a large, multi-level album, you'd probably want it to work that way. You're always just one click away from the top level, anyway - click the project icon on the left.

But to be precise my comments for pictures are not that long, a sentence, not more. But yes, I use long comments for folders.
