While screenshots are usually not very helpful for debugging, a video of a jAlbum session can sometimes help to illustrate something, like a problem you're encountering. So, how to make such a video?
Windows 11 includes the
Snipping Tool app, which makes this very simple.
- Launch jAlbum and navigate to where you want to start recording.
- Launch Snipping Tool. You can find the app by clicking the Windows icon at lower left, then typing "Snipping Tool" in the search bar.
- Click the Record button (video camera icon), then click New.
- Click and drag to establish the window you want to record.
- Click Start.
- You'll get a 3-second countdown timer before the recording begins.
- When you're finished, click the red Stop recording icon.
In macOS, there's a screen recorder built in.
- Launch jAlbum and navigate to where you want to start recording.
- Hit Command-spacebar to bring up Spotlight.
- Start typing Qu and choose QuickTime Player.app.
- Choose File, New Screen Recording.
- At the bottom, choose the icon for Record Selected Portion and adjust the mask to the jAlbum window if you're not running jAlbum fullscreen, or choose the icon for Record Entire Screen.
- Click Record.
- Use jAlbum, and show whatever you're trying to demonstrate.
- Click the "stop" icon in the top bar to finish recording.
- Quit jAlbum and QuickTime. The video file will be on the desktop.
The video you end up with will often be too large to attach to a forum post. Either upload it somewhere or make a little one-object jAlbum project using your favorite skin. In either case, provide a link.
