The Mac installer won't pass Apple muster. Not "notarized" properly, apparently. I can force it, of course, by opening it from Finder.

Thanks for reporting. I now noticed it in the logs. Will investigate the cause.

Project group ideas

Here are ideas for project groups. Some are noted in angle brackets. Those are intended to be virtual, not physical:

Junk
<Favorites>
<Samples>
Tests
To organize
Years
2022
2023
2024

Clients
a.com
Acme

<Family>
<Work>
<Hobby>

Work
Nature
Portrait
Weddings
Travels
Urbex

Do you have ideas for project groups as well? The idea behind "To organize" is to basically manually move everything under "My Albums" to "To organize" using the file system and then gradually move projects to proper locations using jAlbum. The "Junk" group will help users who can't decide whether to keep or waste a project. Put it there, then eventually delete the contents of the "Junk" group straight from the file system.

I have an archived group, for things I might not use again but don’t want to permanently delete them. Only for small projects, larger ones would be backed up to a separate drive.

I also have a group for the bundled sample projects. Maybe those projects could be in such a project by default?

I've now updated the Mac archives. They failed to "notarize" due to missing digital signatures for the new native Mac binaries for the updated look&feel

Now I've released b16 to https://jalbum.net/download/beta/jalbum-core.jar

Changes:
  • Fix to folders not being deleted properly from server on Windows
  • Changed behaviour of uploader: You now need to complete an upload to a selected folder for jAlbum to write this new remote folder to the project. This avoids the risk of other incorrect folders being selected by the user (when investigating a remote folder tree) and then persisted to the project, leading to uploads to unwanted folders.
  • One can now quickly move between project groups by clicking the title for the current project group and then hold down the mouse as the panel expands. Now just drag the mouse to the desired project group and release it. jAlbum will now change to this project group and collapse the panel
  • One can now quickly move a project to another project group by simply dragging it onto the title of the current project group, hold the mouse for a second so the panel expands and now drag the mouse to the desired target group

I like the new "collapsing" behavior of the group list - I often found myself wanting to collapse the list manually, since mine is a bit long (Atom Demos, Mercury Demos, etc., etc.).

I'm not enamored of the automatic creation of the Favorites, Samples, and Tests groups, but it's a one-time thing - once you remove them from the list, they're gone - and it will lead users to explore the new options. The groups persist, however, in My Albums, which I definitely don't like.

That's probably the remaining weak link - removing a group from the list doesn't delete it from the file system. I'm not sure how that should behave. Maybe there should be a "delete group" option, in addition to being able to remove it from the list. Projects are like that - you can remove them from the list of recents without actually deleting them. Two different actions.

The time for the panel to open varies quite a bit, five to ten seconds or more. See attached screen grab video.

This isn't working for me at all. And I think RobM's screen grab involves the same mechanism, not the one for moving between groups (previous bullet).

I've fixed this in b17 now. (The old logic didn't accept any mouse shaking)
b17 also lets you delete project groups if they reside under My Albums.

That's better.

The "delete" option really does make more sense than a "hide" option. If you hide a group, the only way to un-hide it is to "create" it again, as if it didn't exist. That's a little weird

Would it be an idea to be able to translate these names?
