Is the icon (four squares) for the project gallery being permanently removed?

No matter what I do, I can't create a new group called Site that contains just this one project. If I point to this directory when creating the group, it comes up empty. See screenshot, with hovering showing the location of the group.

The project group folder needs to be the parent folder of the project's folder. Then it will pick up the projects within.

And then, with an empty group, I can't drag this project into it from Recent Projects. Treat me like an idiot - tell me, step-by-step, how to achieve this result. ;)

I've disallowed dragging from the recent projects group as you won't know from where you're dragging if you drag from this group. If I allow dragging from it, it would be counter-intuitive to remove the source from the recent projects view, but leaving it in place would make the drag and drop operation feel failed.

The second problem is a more generalized version of the same thing. I can create a new, empty group, but there doesn't seem to be any way to drag projects into it unless they're already in My Albums (renamed, in my case).

You can drag projects from any other group than Recent projects.

He means this - screenshot. I think Rob's question is not a complaint (as in, "I'll really miss this"), but rather a documentation question.

ETA: In fact, despite the mention in your first post of the Project Gallery, there doesn't appear to be any way to launch it.

ETA: Correction - CTRL-G still gets you there, but it's always a gallery of Recent Projects.

I think this all comes back to the fact that the groups are physically present on the hard drive. So, you can't have a group that consists of half-a-dozen projects that are, in reality, in six different places in the file structure.

They're not virtual groups, a collection of pointers to projects. Maybe in the future.

Ah, Yes, I felt it's enough to provide access via CTRL+G and File->Project Gallery now that the main panel can explore multiple locations via project groups.

Yes, I plan to add virtual groups as well now :-)

And now my groups are disappearing at random. I promise, no registry tinkering was done in the meantime!

I'll see if I can figure out what's driving it.

ETA: Oh, my. It has deleted my entire jAlbum Skins Development directory. Had to recover it from backups. Or maybe this is a suggestion that I finally hang it up. ;)

ETA: This is so much fun. Here's what happened. When I created the group called jAlbum Skins Development, with just a single project in it, all was well. But when I renamed it Site, that renamed the physical directory on the hard drive. But my other groups, like Atom Demos, are buried in that directory. With a new name, they can no longer be found.

I can honestly say that I've never used the Project Gallery. Perhaps other users have, and will miss the icon. Hard to say.

Oh, this really, really needs to be virtualized. Something that produces unexpected changes to the directory structure on the hard drive is inherently dangerous.

?? and File->Project Gallery. Also, the location selector allows you to select any project group to be viewed.

Yes, it's OK. I was being misled by the ever-exciting Vanishing Groups™ feature. ;)

Updated jAlbum explore page, now includes Project Groups, just below the 'Projects Pane'. Any issues let me know.

Thanks Rob! Our documentation is ahead of the code itself :-)

Looking forward to virtual project groups. In fact, I could argue that they should all be virtual, with no connection to the physical location of projects on the hard drive.

In encouraging news, I'm now defaulting to jAlbum 35b7, and have done some family album rebuilding, without incident. I'm also in the midst of a bunch of skin updates (nothing major), and that involves a lot of poking around with temporary test projects, along with regenerating the skin demo albums. So, lots of back-and-forth, rapid-fire changes, and using the multi-maker a lot. Everything has been behaving nicely - no mysterious problems. :)
