Looks OK to me. Screenshot.

But more mysterious, that's not the name of the UI field. The entry is ui.searchToolTip=Search (CTRL+Space).

I think you need to do some clearing out of old, conflicting versions, and do a fresh install of the current release.

I haven't installed any older versions since rebuilding my PC recently. I did do a repair installation a few minutes ago, which didn't fix it.

It just occurred to me that I only noticed this problem after installing the 34.2.3 core update.

I don't have any appetite for doing a more thorough investigation for something that is just cosmetic.

Oh, this is fascinating! I see the same thing, and in the same weird green color, if I leave jAlbum unattended for a few minutes, and go do something else. I get a little mysterious sound prompt, something not associated with anything else on my PC (like an incoming email, for example). Go back to the jAlbum window, and there it is! It goes away if I click on the green box, and then I can't make it come back. Seems to be completely independent of skin choice, empty project or existing project, etc.

In keeping with the season, I think this is supernatural.

Add the following to texts.properties:
#34.3
ui.useSearchBarPrompt=Use me
to find any setting
you need

I'm adding a few of these speech bubbles to assist people to find the most important buttons in jAlbum. I will however adjust the behaviour so you don't see these bubbles more than once (or until you've used the button next to the bubble)

I would prefer "Use this" instead of "Use me". I am not a big fan of assigning a personality to an inanimate thing.

You may disagree.

The search is not limited to just settings either :)

True, but I'm keeping it simple here.
