C:\Users\MDrück\AppData\Roaming\jAlbum\defaults
This shouldn't exist at all - delete it. C:\Users\MDrück\AppData\Roaming\jAlbum\configManager.properties
Yes, I deleted them already. I only have:
"C:\Users\MDrück\AppData\Roaming\jAlbum\bin"
"C:\Users\MDrück\AppData\Roaming\jAlbum\dictionaries"
"C:\Users\MDrück\AppData\Roaming\jAlbum\defaults.jap"
"C:\Users\MDrück\AppData\Roaming\jAlbum\albumv25.rss"
"C:\Users\MDrück\AppData\Roaming\jAlbum\recent-projects.txt"
"C:\Users\MDrück\AppData\Roaming\jAlbum\accounts.xml"
"C:\Users\MDrück\AppData\Roaming\jAlbum\shares.xml"
The error occurred with only the above files left.

I knew it. The error occurred again, processing the same picture I posted above.
Does this happen when you create a one-image project with Minimal?

No, it does not.

OK, that means we can stop looking at jAlbum system files. They're obviously not relevant.
For me, at least, it doesn't fail with Tiger, either, again with a one-image project with default skin settings.
ETA: It also doesn't fail if I use the settings from your Auf dem Pitzberg 19 album. I can't do the same test with your huge Norge album because there's no lifeboat file.
Rather than beating this to death, how about just converting that CR2 file to a JPG, and replacing it in the project. Does that work?

You should quit while you're ahead. Uninstall jAlbum, and never take another photo or video. Retire to the south of France.
ETA: I probably should have said this earlier, but didn't think I needed to: whenever you're messing with the jAlbum config or control files, it's always necessary to close and re-launch the app, because it caches things. So, you might fix something without knowing that it's fixed.

I switched off the option to not create the lifeboat file, because it seemed to me that this costs some time during compiling an album.

In fact I only have maybe a dozen of CR2 and CRW pictures in two albums. Your suggestion sounds reasonable. I'll think over it.

I have been there, Marseille for example, by train (TGV), 327km/h, I liked it. But hey, its warm, no snow, no ice, no cold. My direction is to the north, the most northern point, an ordinary person like me can get easily, like Longyearbyen is the place to be. Hopefully again in Feb 2023 to the next PolarJazz Festival.

Yes, I do that. If I'm fiddling in config files directly I only do it when JA is closed.

FYI: I aim to replace the "jlibraw-all.jar" library with an updated LibRaw integration soon, which also will support M1 CPUs. I don't know exact dates for this but hope for Q1 2023. (We're waiting for a fix in Java + an updated LibRaw integration)

David, thanks for the info. I was able to compile my album without an error two times.

Markus, could you please try this:
Install jAlbum 29.1 (you can install it in parallel if you want)
Delete the file lib/jlibraw-all.jar
Start jAlbum. Does it build fine now?
I know RAW support won't work now, but now you should at least not get that error.

MarkusD is no longer getting the error, and you and I can't reproduce it, so there's no way to test any of it now.

Tough. We got one more such report from a user. I've asked him to do the same test.

David, as Jeff already wrote, compiling my two problematic albums now work flawlessly. Just in case the error occurs again I'll do as you proposed. Thanks.

Markus, is the problem reappearing if you change the look & feel again?
