jAlbum is terrific for photos. Nature, profiles, landscapes, animals, etc. But it could also be great for instruction manuals and other 'tips.' While 'Open with' now allows one to easily jump into (and back) a more dedicated image editor like Irfanview, Lightroom, etc, perhaps some tweaking in the Effects category might add extra value to jAlbum? Has Java improved their package?

Check the attached, how would you do something like this?

With a bit of fiddling you could get that, or close to it, with the built-in image filters. Text for the text and watermark for the circle and arrow. Or if adventurous one could build an image filter plugin to add basic markup elements.

Another approach would be for skin developers to add support for HTML5 canvas and let users use JavaScript to draw the markup elements.

Of course one would also need a skin designed for 'instruction manuals' ;)

Going back several years, a similar request was posted with a suggestion that using a text font containing arrows and speech bubbles was a possibility. There are now probably a few more similar fonts available.

Contrary to what a few here and my ex might suggest, I do sometimes remember some things. That includes our mate Mr. Berry sitting on a stool snagging more birds than fish.

Very much appreciate the suggestions made here. I was trying to build up my participation posts and remembered arrows and circles. Actually forgot about the conversation bubbles. I'd like those too.

Similar to the 'text tool,' are there any new libraries that might be added directly/easily to jAlbum and allow us to use arrows, circles, and or bubbles while in Edit mode?

Am I alone in thinking they might be a nice addition to a future release?

For those kinds of things, I have one word: Greenshot. It will do circles, boxes, lines, arrows, speech bubbles, etc. No chance of incorporating it into jAlbum, however - it's Windows only.

As per the picture, after almost ten years nobody has taken the bait and produced anything other than using certain fonts.

It seems easier to apply such markup outside of jAlbum and set the image to use original.

Also, we know that you would only be encouraged to ask for the same thing on videos! ;)

jAlbum's image filters/tools have received very little love over the last decade. I find myself wanting to apply a "region blur" or "region pixelate" to anonymize "background people" from images. jAlbum's way of applying these filters as the album is being made is perfect for this as the originals are preserved.

Let's start by making a list of "good-to-have" image tools. I'll add these:
  • Region blur
  • Region pixelate
  • Arrows and ovals

This is what Irfanview offers for "image tools." I'm big on arrows and circles and a little less so on balloon comments. My interest is in annotation but as a starter, perhaps this helps. Frankly, Irfanview's 'tools' seem somewhat limited and elementary, but they work. If one really wants Lightroom quality, then use Lightroom as jAlbum allows with 'Open with.'

Eraser, color swap?

Region blur seems kind of exciting to me. I suspect this is the reason the Forum title is Feature requests. Sort of what can David possibly pull off as an added feature ;-)

When I see region blur (what Greenshot calls "obfuscate"), my first thought is that I've got some schmutz on my glasses.

Don't most fonts these days contain (as special characters) all the symbols you want?

It should be easy enough to find from Google the codes for the few that you want to use, or just copy and paste the required symbol from a list like this into your jAlbum text tool, using an appropriate font size. What could be simpler :)

Presumably, obfuscations (things like blur, pixelate) would need to be applied to thumbnails and originals as well as slides(including variants)?

Wouldn't that violate the jAlbum Prime Directive: Thou shalt not touch originals?

Dedicated photo software can replace unwanted objects and people by cloning areas or using AI to seamlessly fill in the area. The result is more pleasing to the eye than blurry or pixelated images.
