Force Remake Images

I've run into this before, and the various workarounds are really clumsy. There are times when I'd like to be able to do a Force Remake, but not touch the videos. In a large project, there may be dozens and dozens of videos scattered throughout many folders, so marking all of them Do not re-encode is unacceptable. But if I want to force jAlbum to create new thumbnails and/or slide images, I don't want to wait forever while it reprocesses all the videos, as well (not to mention the noise of the cooling fan on my tower!). And I certainly don't want to upload all of these videos again, since they will not have changed.

So, I'd like to see both Force Remake Images and Force Remake All.

ETA: Or maybe even more useful, Force Remake Images and Force Remake Videos.

I would second this, very strongly!

Sounds reasonable. A "Force remake" sub menu under the "Album" menu perhaps?

which presumably be mirrored in the drop-downs (bottom-left of the GUI)?

I could do so, but isn't these such special cases that it's best to only making them available via the Album menu? I find accessing sub menus more difficult and don't want to force the more typical "Force remake" option to a sub menu.

I think I'd just replace the current Force Remake with two separate items: Force Remake Images and Force Remake Videos. Anyone who wants to do both can just as easily delete the local album, and hit Make Album.

On the theory that it would be used more often, I'd use SHIFT-F9 for Force Remake Images. Probably no need for a keyboard shortcut for the videos.

BTW, one little wrinkle. Force Remake Images should remake all of the thumbnails, including those for videos. It's only the actual MP4 processing that we want to avoid.

I still think there's a real need for this option. I've run into it IRL on several occasions.

Failing that, RobM, how would you like to give us an external tool that simply goes through the entire project and deletes the thumbs directories in the output. That actually triggers all new slides and thumbnails when you Make Album, without touching the videos.

I knew this would be trivially easy. It's like commissioning Monet to paint your guest bedroom.

Two suggestions:

  • For consistency, Delete album thumbnails (casing).
  • The dialog provides Yes/No/Cancel. One of those is redundant. ;)

That’s why I said version -1, it was a quick and dirty copy and paste for most of the code.
Given David is shortly to address the issue is it worthwhile me uploading it?

Probably not, since it's just a temporary workaround. I'll keep it in my config directory for the time being - it's handy when testing things.

Appears to be identical to what I have already.
