It would be nice if a skin could provide its own settings tab icon. Compare the two screenshots.

The standard "skin" icon looks like road kill.

A nice idea. If implemented can you use your artistic skills to make an icon for Polyglot? ;)

Whilst Polyglot does what it says, being able to use a custom icon for a skin might make developers think more about what they call their skins. There have been some strangely name skins in the past.

Are you thinking about something along the lines of a graphic that suggests the Tower of Babel?

Who can forget Saratogateen.com? :)

The skin naming practice that I would ban outright, however, is using the name of someone else's software as the name of your skin, like Lightbox or Highslide. Beyond the intellectual property problems, it also leads to confusion. Someone searching for Lokesh Dhakar's "Lightbox" script would accidentally land on a skin page here, and then be completely confused when the download wasn't what he was looking for at all. Or someone who was looking for help with the script would land in these forums. We used to get muddled forum posts like that with some regularity.

Very tough to reduce that to an image that will still look good at 32px square, or as a 16px .ico file. Otherwise, I'd go for it!

How about this?

ETA: Now all you need is a website where you can use it. ;)

That’s a good option, if the feature is implemented. My second thought for the image was, of course, a small head with a Babel fish in an ear.

Before that, I need a user to download the skin!

All good things come to them what waits. ;)

Now working in the 32.1.4 beta, and coming soon to a skin near you.

Attached, the Neptune icon with the system standard look-and-feel.

Maybe something like this idea?
That image itself is probably copyright, but something similar might be workable.
That many flags is probably not a good idea but maybe six or seven plastered around a globe could be possible?
Or a few flags fluttering on staves?

Thanks Jim. I have already tried a multicoloured image and it didn’t look good with some look & feels. Jeff’s Tower of Babel works fine, so I’ll go with that.

The regular jAlbum icons have color problems, too. IMO, they should be redesigned as B&W icons, and the "blue for active" choice should be changed, perhaps to a medium gray or at least a lighter gray-blue.
