Photo in portrait cut off if selfie. Where does that come from???

I have this in Tiger version 2.xx and 3.xx

Maybe because I was so stupid to upgrade to 3.xxx but why put this yellow ribbon there if if is a beta version to upgrade to???

If somebody has a clue then TIA,

Can you please tell me what is this device?

Looks like if the code (the database) knows a different dimension from the real image dimensions. Does the local preview work? Did jAlbum regenerate all the images?

I'm on a iMac iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020) with macOS 11.5 Beta (20G5042c).

In de preview of jAlbum I got the same difference in dimensions. It occurs only with selfies apparently.

This are the setting for image linking: link to scaled-down images only.

Notice what's different about the data on those two images? Look at the Orientation flag.

To help with debugging, please create a test album with just this one image. Choose Link to originals via scaled images, make the album, upload it somewhere, and give us a link to the album.

It seems jAlbum thinks this image is landscape oriented, and writes the width/height data this way.
            "image": {
                "path": "slides/IMG_6560.JPG",
                "width": 1000,
                "height": 750
            },
            "regions": "[\";0.473;0.326;0.196;0.261\"]",
            "original": {
                "path": "IMG_6560.JPG",
                "width": 3088,
                "height": 2316
            },
            "thumb": {
                "path": "thumbs/IMG_6560.JPG",
                "width": 340,
                "height": 260
            },

I see now that in the camera settings of the iPhone is an option: "Mirror camera on frontside".
This result is
Orientation : Mirror horizontal and rotate 270 CW

if this setting is off the orientation will be as for backside portrait pictures:
Orientation                     : Rotate 90 CW

so that must make the difference.

Can that be solved in jAlbum, or should I correct this myself. Or not make selfiesto put in an jAlbum. ;-)

I believe this could be fixed in jAlbum. I move the thread to Bug reports, so David can read about this.

I just grabbed the original image from gvmelle's test album, and it works properly in an album. I've tried various types of skins - Atom, Neptune, Tiger (which covers slide page, lightbox, and JSON) - and had no failures in any of them. I've let jAlbum scale the image, and I've also tried linking to the original, with the same result.

So, I'm puzzled about what's going on here.

ETA: As a final sanity check, I copied the original to my little Macbook Air, and tried it in a Tiger album, viewing it in Safari. Again, no problem at all. I can't produce a failure with this image.

And I doubled-checked - the original I've grabbed from the test album is the real thing, showing the same odd orientation flag as reported by the OP.

I tried also Photoblogger 3.16.

I attach some screenshots. After clicking the enlarge arrows the picture rotated 90° to the left. Clicking to diminish the size kept that position.

I get the same results (i.e., correct) in Win10, macOS 11.4, with jAlbum 24, all browsers (all current versions). The enlarge arrows work as expected, as well, with no change in orientation.

Perhaps someone else can replicate the problem you're seeing. I can't.

But I think I know the problem is! I think it's the jAlbum integrated browser. If I preview with that browser, I get various types of misbehavior with this image. One more reason that one should never use it - do your previewing in a real browser.

This EXIF flag rotation was a big issue twelve years ago, it looks like most OS’ and browsers have resolved the displaying of such images. The built in browser is an old beast, the kindest thing to do is put it down ;)

I have put an testalbum on the internet. So no preview with internal jAlbum browser. I made a duplicate picture of the fist one and have set the orientation flag to 1 and then rotated the picture to portrait and mirrored it in jAlbum. After that the view is correct.

I'll investigate running the Chrome browser embedded instead of Java's dated embedded browser.

That's fine, but the OP is reporting this problem even when previewing in a regular browser. That's the part of it that I can't replicate. Can anyone else? His original image is included in the little one-image test album that he posted.
