Re-Naming project and selecting new project without pressing enter

Hello
Something I have never got to grips with when using jAlbum is the re naming of an album when its in my recent projects list, as it ALWAYS goes horribly wrong..
What happened today is typical of my attempting an album 're-name'.
I select the album from my recent project list on the left of the jAlbum window, it opens, I then select 'Rename' from its drop down menu, I rename it and it is redisplayed with the new name.
At this point it has none of the albums previous image contents, but now contains the contents of another album thats also in the recent projects list... One that has been worked on prior to my renaming the current one.
I have never ever been able to re name an album successfully using this inbuilt method and always end up creating the new album manually.
Am I being stupid or something here ?
My expectations are...
That I re name an album in the recent projects list, whereupon everything on the screen stays as it was with the exception that it now has a different name ?
I then make all, upload, create a new destination directory, and then once thats all done, I just delete the old one ?
Is this correct ?
Regards Peter

It works fine for me Mac OS 11.3 jAlbum 23.3B3. Have you tried doing a rename immediately after starting jAlbum?
If you still have problems maybe a small video of your actions might help.

Hello Rob
I'm not so sure about video, but I will set something up with a few new albums,
the take screenshots.
I am sorry, I dont have many issues with jAlbum and this renaming isn't something
I do that often, but its never worked for me so far.
I shall post back here
Thanks

Hello Rob
Right, I know what's happening now, as your reply prompted me to experiment.
I created three albums, named 123, 456 and 789....
In each I put three images, 1, 2, 3.jpg and 4, 5, 6.jpg and 7,8,9.jpg
I renamed the 456 album to 456-2 ( but the naming text area was left still active )
I did not click on the jAlbum work area, or press enter but I clicked my mouse once, on the bottom of the three albums listed which was album 789.
Album 789 disappears and becomes album 456-2, with album 456 staying unchanged
Leaving me with three albums listed, album 123, album 456 and album 456-2
The images did stay in place though, maybe I just got confused at what I was looking at as the images dont reflect what the albums name suggests...
When renaming would it be possible to isolate the other albums in the list somehow, so nothing happens, or at least a popup asking if you want to overwrite its name ?
I hope this makes some sense!
Regards Peter

That's certainly an odd bit of behavior, but easily avoided. When renaming a project, you have to exit the project name field for the new name to "take." Click somewhere else (other than another project), or hit TAB.

I would say that this behaviour is a bug. If you enter, say, a title for a folder but don't press enter or click elsewhere within the project, then switch projects, the title change is not saved. Renaming a project and then changing the focus to another project should leave the first project with the old name.
I'll move this to the bugs forum

Thankyou Jeff,
Yes I realise that now and shall avoid it.
It will catch someone out though, somewhere, as it is strange behaviour.
It occurred to me that a little pop up asking to rename or not, would be useful, in
any event...
I am not a fan of pop ups all the time, but it might stop something dreadful happening
to someone, as some have 1000's and 1000's of pictures in their albums. Could result in heart failure!

Renaming a project and then changing the focus to another project should leave the first project with the old name.
I agree - that would be the "proper" behavior.

You have lost me now, but thanks all, maybe I have strange habits with all this sometimes, but I shall avoid it now.
If I renamed an album, then click on another album straight away, I would like to
see the album I modified change its name, with the album I clicked on open itself,
leaving the renamed album 'renamed'... And nothing else to happen.
Maybe

If you don't press the 'Enter/Return' key or move the focus (mouse click) to somewhere within the project, then you have not actually renamed it - it is just a 'provisional' edit.

Ahh! I understand what you are both saying now, Yes, if I click on another
album before I clicked the jAlbum window or pressed enter, the other
album would open leaving the previous name change 'forgotten'.
So I would have to do it again...
Go for it!

Yes, it's obviously a bug, but luckily easily avoidable. Just hit Enter after any name change. I think the root of the problem is in which order focus events are fired in relation to other events.

Hello David
I am not actually sure what a firing focus event is, specially when it goes off.
but I will avoid this now I realise what happens, and can't believe it has taken me so long.
It would be nice if it didn't go off though as many times its confused the heck out of me.
Thankyou to everyone
Regards Peter
