First, review the attached photo "original.jpg"; It is in portrait orientation. I wanted to crop it so that it is in landscape orientation. I cropped it, and produced "cropped.jpg".
Problems:
- The jAlbum cropping tool offers a pre-determined list of cropping dimensions. Since this is a portrait image, it offered portrait dimensions. 9:16 was available, but 16:9 was not offered. I could have dragged the borders manually, but I wanted 16:9 exactly.
- Since I could not accomplish this crop with jAlbum; I used The GIMP instead.
So, I request that the cropping tool's Predefined Ratios should always include both portrait and landscape ratios. I suggest that:
- The list of ratios should first list the ratios that match the original orientation, followed by other ratios.
- Alternatively, allow the user to manually enter his required ratio.
- Even better, allow the user to choose landscape or portrait (this would default to the image orientation), and then offer the matching ratios.
