A ”dummy picture” option for empty folders.

I’m using Jalbum with the photoblogger skin for my photos of my ancestors. In some cases i don’t have a picture of a person but i create a folder in which i got a information file about him/her, but No pics. Lets name that persons folder to 1.
But i might have a picture of his/her son. So i create a subfolder named 2 with a pic in it.
What happens now is that folder 1 (as well as folder 2) shows the thumb for folder 2 . And that looks a bit odd. In that case i prefer a default dummy picture or simply a black colored thumb.
Or an option that prevents folders to automatically enherit subfolders pics.

The solution to turn ”use thumbnail for folder icon” off isn’t a solution for me. Since my photos is already organized in a familytree structure on my harddrive i just create new folders on the disk and lets Jalbum/photoblogger take care of the rest. The whole idea of automation will be lost if I have to manually select a representative thumb for every folder, and I’ve got a lot.

Add default image to empty folders.bsh (1.0 KB)

Add the attached file to the external tools folder, press Shift + CMD/CNTRL + C then put the file in the folder named 'tools'.

Start jAlbum and load your project, then press SHIFT + CMD/CNTRL + I to open the projects root folder in your OS.

If there is no 'res' folder create one and then add the jpeg image you want to use as a placeholder/dummy image to it. Rename it to 'emptyFolder.jpg'.

Return to jAlbum then select Menu/Tools/External tools/Add default image to empty folders.

Any folder that is empty of jAlbum category files (images, folders, videos etc.) will have that image copied to it. A dialogue window will tell you how many times the image was copied.

Make the album.

You just need to delete the copy when you add real images.

But he also wants it planted in any folder that has only folders within it.

I have to reorder my folders a bit, because of other reasons, so it will take a little time before i can try it out.

If it works how you want it to, but would like it to be more general it is easy to modify it to:
Add a file chooser, to select any image to be used;
Add an option to exclude the image once added;
Remember the image used and the exclude or not status.

Let me know if you want any of those changes.

I have marked this as answered but I decided to make a more general tool, it is in the external tools forum should you still have a use for it.
