Recently we passed an estimated 30 million photo albums published with Jalbum! It's a mind-boggling number and it really made us realize how far we have come since we started. When founder David Ekholm started this as a hobby project back in 2002 he never realized what this would grow into. Just look at this map. He just wanted to share some skiing pictures from a recent trip with friends ๐
We've grown quite a bit since that first version of Jalbum. Pursuing our vision of creating the most flexible photo sharing solution on the web, we added our own photo album hosting now known as Jalbum accounts. There are approx 600,000 people hosting photo albums with Jalbum. Still, the great majority publish albums to their own site. Since photos is about sharing we also built a number of sharing possibilities such as an explore section, blog badge, widgets, easy sharing to social networks and more. Recently we also added a convenient way to create Jalbum photo albums straight from the browser, without the need of downloading software. The next big project we're currently working on is something we call "Jalbum Breeze book". It is a very easy way to get a gorgeous photo book straight from your Jalbum albums. We can't wait to get it out to you!
Jalbum would never be what it is today without the contributions from the fantastic Jalbum community. A big thank you goes out to all the developers, translators, forum admins, group founders, donators (you'll find a little heart next to their profile pictures) and sponsors.
Now, let's create another 30 million albums shall we? ๐
