General Jalbum questions
-
Jalbum is the easiest way to create your very own photo album site that you can share with friends and family.
-
- Jalbum allows for endless customization of your photo album site. Customize with skins and widgets.
- You can publish your Jalbum photo site anywhere, on your free yourname.jalbum.net account or on your own web site.
-
You can publish Jalbum albums to any site you have access to. Your Jalbum account is the easiest alternative, simply use your Jalbum user name and password to publish.
-
The frog is called Dor and was a hand puppet David (Jalbum founder) had as a child. It has come alive with Jalbum and is now our community mascot and company logo.
-
We believe in the popularity and goodwill that comes from providing something good for free. However, this alone doesn't pay the bills. Instead of charging for Jalbum, we ask our fantastic community for
support and try to find
partners who can add neat stuff for the Jalbum users and are willing to share some of their revenue.
-
Jalbum is free to use for commercial web sites, our only requirement is that you link back to our site either in the album (there's a link in almost all skins) or if you prefer from another page on your web site. We hope you think that's fair. However, if you'd like to charge for Jalbum software or as a part of a commercial offering/package, you need a license agreement from us. Please contact
license@jalbum.net for further information.

Jalbum accounts
-
The free Jalbum account holds 30Mb, which is approximately 200 web-sized photos. If you want to upload more, you can
upgrade to Premium or Power account. Consider it a fair, relaxed way to try out Jalbum accounts.
-
-
The free accounts will have ads (we'll try not to make it look like a Christmas tree and still work out economically). Premium and Power accounts are totally ad free.
-
First, make sure the confirmation e-mail isn't blocked by your e-mail service (put in the spam folder for instance). If you still can't find it, please e-mail
account@jalbum.net with your username from the e-mail address you used when you registered the account.
-
No worries, we will not delete your Jalbums. You will however not be able to surf to your albums or publish to your account. As soon as you extend you'll have full access to your account and albums again.

No, uninstalling Jalbum won't delete your albums, images, or project files. Enjoy the latest version!
-
That error is triggered if you install Jalbum 8.2 on top of an earlier Jalbum installation. Make sure you have removed the old installation directory completely before installing Jalbum 8.2 and you will be fine. Simply running the old uninstaller isn't always enough.

Jalbum widgets

Advanced
-
A lot of things can be set in the Jalbum user interface and on the skin specific tab (see album settings), but if you don't find a user interface control for what you'd like to adjust, add or change in the final album (font sizes, alignment etc), edit the skin template files instead, there is even a tutorial for this if you find it hard. The skin template files are basically html files stuffed with some Jalbum specific tags and variables. They form the base for all generated album pages. Use a plain text editor like Notepad to edit or an html editor like Frontpage. If you are adjusting a size, font or colour, edit the style files of the skin instead (see the styles directory of the skin you are using). NEVER modify the generated html pages, or you will find yourself having to re-modify them every time you generate an album.
-
More formats, like TIFF, BMP and JPEG2000 can be added through the
Java Advanced Imaging Image I/O Tools plugin from Sun. Other file types are supported as linked icons (edit the filetypes.xml file to support more file types).
-
Some skins (like Chameleon) have their own settings for this, but here is the general solution: Usually one puts a Jalbum album in a subdirectory of a web site. Jalbum will automatically add a "parent/up" link on the thumbnail/index page(s), but only if it senses index web pages in the parent directory of the output directory during page generation. You can force Jalbum to generate a custom link by defining the variable parentIndexPage to ../index.html or whatever that points users back to your site in the "User variables" settings of Jalbum.
-
Well, some skins have the possibility to protect from right click and save. However, the bottom line is that if a person can see your image, he/she can save a copy of it. Read more
here.
-
Watermarks can be added to the generated images by using Jalbum filters. Some skins (BluPlusPlus and ShowOff for instance) also have special fields for entering watermarks in their user interfaces, but you get the best flexibility out of manipulating Jalbum filters right away. More information about image filters can be found
here.
