Does it make any difference if you choose the <System default> look-and-feel instead of Darcula?

jAlbum > Preferences > General > Look and feel

Hello,

Unfortunately, impossible to access:
jAlbum > Preferences > General > Look and feel

Because not available from the top menu.

So I remove the following into "defaults.jap": com.bulenkov.darcula.DarculaLaf
But no changes.

Regards
Henri

So I remove the following into "defaults.jap": com.bulenkov.darcula.DarculaLaf

Check the line again and if it is still as above replace it with
look=com.apple.laf.AquaLookAndFeel
Then try jAlbum again.

Hello,

This is what I have done. After removing "com.bulenkov.darcula.DarculaLaf" and restarting Jalbum, the value "com.apple.laf.AquaLookAndFeel" has been added automatically by Jalbum, but no changes.

Regards
Henri

You could try downloading the previous 14.0.5 release
It has a slightly older Java version. If you do try it just add it to a folder, maybe called 'jAlbum old', in the Applications folder.

Other than that I think you will have to wait for a further update to jAlbum.

If you need to access some of the menu commands see http://jalbum.net/help/en/Keyboard_shortcuts_and_modifiers

Yee, my suggestion was just a hunch. It appears that there's a more fundamental problem here.

Must be a local problem, I'm running High Sierra and have no problem with jAlbum.

That is encouraging.

Could you both confirm the version of jAlbum in use?

Are there any old extensions/plugins in your configuration folder, maybe try removing them and seeing if that makes a difference.

This problem seems to hit any Java 8 software running Java 8u144, like jAlbum does:
https://www.google.se/search?q=mac+java+high+sierra+missing+menu&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b&gfe_rd=cr&dcr=0&ei=Eh7OWZS8C4XANNXgiLAD

I expect that we will see a patch/fix from Apple or Oracle within days. You who have this problem, please try the plain v14 installation here: http://jalbum.net/en/software/download/previous/version/14 and report if it works on High Sierra. If it works, then I'll provide a temporary 14.1 release that runs on the same working Java version (Java 8 u121)

I've made a quick fix that moves the menu to the window no matter what look and feel you're using. To apply the fix, get http://jalbum.net/download/14.1/jalbum-core.jar and put it inside jAlbum's "lib" folder, thereby REPLACING the existing jalbum-core.jar file. Now restart jAlbum.

Please report this problem to Apple. It's a problem affecting MANY Java apps.

I don't have High Sierra yet, so I haven't seen the problem (and I might not, as it seems to affect only systems whose language is set to something other than English), but that core update doesn't seem to have made any visible difference. The menu items are still not part of the application window. Or am I simply misunderstanding what should happen?

File info attached.

There can be only one! Menu that is, it would be breaking a fundamental UI rule for Mac app windows to have their own menus.

As for updating the OS, I recommend waiting for about a month. I think for this update I also need to do some reading, having a Mac with an SSD and a new file system, I need a nice new backup first.
