Using latest Jalbum and Mirage crash immediately after launching the previous good working jap file. Also fresh created albums with Mirage crash Jalbum right after start.
Running on Windows 10 Creators update 64 bit.

Resulting crash file top lines are:

#
  1. A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
#
  1. EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION (0xc0000005) at pc=0x000000006bf46adf, pid=13552, tid=0x0000000000002fc0
#
  1. JRE version: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (8.0_121-b13) (build 1.8.0_121-b13)
  2. Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (25.121-b13 mixed mode windows-amd64 compressed oops)
  3. Problematic frame:
  4. C http://MSVCR100.dll+0x36adf

Googling at the last two lines shows:

https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/browse/JDK-8179014
A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
Every application for example

- yED
- JOSM
- Minecraft
- NetBeans

will crash when a JFileChooser is opened with windows look and feel. Changing it to Nimbus for example and the application will run!

Crashes started after update to Win10 1703.

Turtle as skin works fine. Jalbum removed and reinstalled.

This is a known problem, as you can see by the Java bug report. There's a conflict between Java and the latest Windows update (the "Creators" version).

Choose Tools, Preferences, General, and under Look and feel, choose anything other than the system default or the Windows look and feel - Metal, Nimbus, CDE/Motif, or Darcula. Close jAlbum and launch it again, and you should be fine.

Indeed known problem. I did not know jalbum allowed to change the look and feel.

Yes, that fixed the problem, thank you!

Windows classic looks and feels good ;)

It's good to know that one works. I haven't gotten the lastest Windows update, so I haven't been able to test this problem.

It looks like this bug will be fixed in Java 9. They're anticipating release in mid-July 2017, but they've pushed the date back a few times already, so....

I just got the Windows update, and after a couple of hours of "Don't turn off your PC," I'm running the new version.

So far, no problems with Mirage, running under jAlbum 14rc1. The jAlbum 14 release candidate is riding on top of Java 1.8.0_131, so maybe this bug has been squashed.

I stand ready, willing, and able to do any testing required.

Unrelated, but there's something fundamentally incompatible between Mirage and jAlbum 14rc1. Default settings, if I try to make an album, I get a crash: Cannot register variables for url.png

Yes I am aware of this. I have fixed the bug and I have a stable version. I have not published it yet because I want to add a couple more bells and whistles. I will ensure that a stable version is available when jAlbum 14 is published.

This Java bug in combination with Mirage is not fixed for me yet..

Running uptodate Windows 10 (US), latest jalbum 14 and latest Mirage, still a crash with System Default as Look and Feel. Darcula (the default now, but so depressive!) or CDE/Motif works.

I'm not getting any crash with Mirage 8.1.

Are you installing the regular, full version of jAlbum 14, or are you installing the "jAlbum for anything" version that does not have Java bundled with it?

I need more details about the crash:
  • When does the crash occur?
  • Attach the error stack, from System Console.

Are the error symptoms identical to your original message?

You provided a link to a Java bug report. This mentions "Last worked in version 8u121" and it is fixed in 8u141 which is not yet released.

I suggest you should use version 8u121, and upgrade to 8u141 when it is released.

Jalbum 14.1 fixed the bug (read the realase notes, installed and tried it), <System defaults> works again.
