Still largely unchanged for over a year.

Time for an update: 23-Aug-2017

Top priority

  • Need some way to specify both a folder thumbnail and a folder theme image, independently of each other. Tiger and Turtle desperately need it, and Gromit and Matrix would use the capability if it were available. This would include the ability to crop them differently, to exclude one, the other, or both from the album, and so on. The theme image should also have its own image bounds - in Gromit and Matrix, there is an option to use a banner-style theme image, and that typically needs to have rather different image bounds (wider) than the regular slide images.
  • Allow webLocation to accept a relative URL. Thread: https://jalbum.net/forum/thread.jspa?threadID=52698
  • Change video handling to match image handling with regard to "originals." Thread: https://jalbum.net/forum/thread.jspa?threadID=51219. Updated suggestions down-thread here: https://jalbum.net/forum/thread.jspa?threadID=52763
  • jAlbum needs to be bundled with at least a half-dozen full-featured, option-rich, fully supported skins. Features should include video support, shopping cart, etc. At present, half of the bundled skins are orphans. Most are lacking in features, and are getting very stale. New skins are introduced by interns, but are really just beta releases without many user-selectable options. Then support for them disappears, and there's no further development.

Higher priority

  • Get rid of hi-res images. They no longer serve much of a purpose, and are a needless complication when it comes to straightening out some other things. (jAlbum 13 removed the hi-res option from the upload routine, at least.) Thread: https://jalbum.net/forum/thread.jspa?threadID=49861
  • Make lifeboat.zip available without using the jAlbum uploader (checkbox on Pages, maybe?). There is now an external tool to do it, but it should be part of the regular settings.
  • Let user save defaults for more than one skin. Thread: https://jalbum.net/forum/thread.jspa?threadID=34018
  • Provide an option to restrict directory chaining to sibling folders. Thread: https://jalbum.net/forum/thread.jspa?threadID=50894
  • Provide an easy way in the UI for a user to choose different quality and resolution settings for an individual video, different from the album-wide settings, perhaps in a new panel on the right when in image-editing mode.
  • Remove items from the Naming tab that are always grayed out. Thread: https://jalbum.net/forum/thread.jspa?threadID=48775
  • Get rid of default image ordering - it just creates confusion. Thread: https://jalbum.net/forum/thread.jspa?threadID=44256
  • Suggestion from RobM that when a webLocation is being created, the automatically-generated file name be displayed in an editable field.

Lower priority

Need something, but I'm not even sure what it would look like

  • Folder-specific settings (without using a customUI).
  • Move the default output directory so that it isn't a subdirectory of the image directory, to prevent inadvertent inclusion of the output in album creation. Thread: https://jalbum.net/forum/thread.jspa?threadID=35355

Why only for videos? It is also important for panoramic pictures, see this thread and this thread

For videos it is also important that the poster image gets the size of the video frame, see this thread.

I also strongly support your point that it should be possible to specify a theme image for each folder album!
