I remember that I read something about how to make an autorun CD (with a Jalbum generated website), the first time I visited this great site. But now I cant find it. Am I blind or was it a hallucination in the first place?

Some people had trouble using the autorun software that was recommended on that site so I dropped the link. Anyone else that can recommend a good autorun software that launches a website AND works with Win98/2000/NT/XP?

Thanx for the answer

I have just spent an hour or so, serching for a solution. I searched on Tucows and similar sites but didnt find anything that was Freeware. Searching on google I found a program called "HTML autorunner" but it popped up a nag-screen with a link to a non-existing website.
Finally I found a working solution on the Cover-CD-ROM from the Danish Computermagazine "Alt om Data". All it takes to work is a tiny file "go.exe" (which calls an HTML file called default.htm) and a text-file called autorun.inf with this text in it:

[autorun]
OPEN=GO.EXE
ICON=FOTO.ICO

The autorun.inf file can be made in notepad, but you've got to have the exe file. I would be a really cool feature in Jalbum if it could make an autolaunch CD by copying the appropriate files into the website folder.

I am not a programmer myself, so I dont know how much work there would be in programming your own version of Go.exe, but it would probably be the best way to solve the problem.
I can mail you the file go.exe if you want to check it out. Its a 20 KB file.

I finally found out that go.xe is freeware made by the danish programmer Lars P Jeppesen. http://hjem.get2net.dk/lpj/Download.htm
Try to ask him if he has something against that you use the go.exe file for your program. He seems to be a nice guy.

To autorun a data CD index.html file, type in Notepad:

[Autorun]
open=index.html

Save it as autorun.inf & try putting this in the root Dir (Folder) of the JAlbum web.

OR:

CDStarter is a free easily configurable tool that lets you make your own autorun file for any data CD. It autoruns & allows you to configure buttons to start most anything. I love it. GoTo:
http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Reviews/r531.html

Also, there's another pgm that you could try, but the doc is in her newsletters which aren't on her site. I have them in a txt file but it's a lot (53K) to put here, so I'm emailing it to David & he can make it available to you.
Goto: http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptautorun.asp
& get Autorun.inf Editor v1.4 (Don't forget to get Visual Basic Runtime v6.0, too.)

What I've been looking for is a program that will autorun one file on a PC and a different one on a Mac. You wouldn't think it would be that hard to find...
Hope this helps,
Frank

Does anyone can tell me how to text autorun.inf within local hard disk before writing to CD?

Many thanks.

As far as I know, it isnt enough to link directly to index.html in the Autorun.inf file. At least on many systems autorun.inf will only work with *.exe files.

In other words:
[Autorun]
open=index.html

wont work!

Instead you should write
[autorun]
OPEN=GO.EXE

and copy the go.exe file from http://hjem.get2net.dk/lpj/Filer/Go.exe
to the CD together with the autorun.inf file

That will work. You can test the go.exe file on the harddrive. It will open the default.htm file, so make sure that you rename index.htm to default.htm

I've made several CD's with albums generated by JAlbum to friends and relatives.

I've used this website to learn how to do it and it has worked very well.
http://www.keiserphoto.com/resources/cdauto.htm

I haven't heard about anyone having any problems with the autorun of the CD.

Related problem...

Is it possible to make a Mac readable CD album from a PC.

My PC is running Windose 98
The Mac is on Mac-OS 8.1

The problem I'm getting is that all folder & file names longer than 8A (or with extensions longer than 3A) are all minced. The short internal name (8A.3A) is written to the CD instead of the full name.

Example: index.html gets written as index~1.htm

I know renaming all my images & folders is an option, but wondered if there is an easier alternative.

Hi,
Both shellexecute and open=*.html will not work with win98 and older.

If you are sure it's going to be used on win98 or win95, you can use open=command.com /max file.html

If used on other OS will fail as command is not present.
