Hi.

Tonight, I have tested for the first time the $updated variable.
I have written : $updated $currentDate in my footer.inc file
Language is set to Fr in the PositionMap5.8.1 GUI (General)

And once the carpet is rebuild, I have : $updated 05 févr. 2009

Is it a bug or is it me ?

What do you want it to say? Should it say "mise à jour"?

Yes

According to what I understood, I should have "Mis à jour le 05 févr. 2009" if I choose French in the PM's GUI

Correct

As $updated is a custom variable defined in the text_XY.properties files you need to write
$text.updated
in your footer.inc file.
