How to supress folder descriptions on main index page?

I've made many individual albums with E+, but now I'm trying to tie them together on a main index page.

I've used meta.properties incorrectly (by basically using it as an index.html page to create a "home page" effect), and now when I gen the album without processing sub-directories, it seems that meta.properties is being read and used as the folder description....I'm assuming this is how meta.properties is supposed to work....

Re-genning the existing albums is not an option; there's too many....

I've read through Mark's doc and see the error of my ways, but no trick as to how to unscrew myself ;-D

I doubt there's an answer, but I'd figured I'd ask anyway ;)

My main goal is to create an index page for the root of my website and link to my portfolio of galleries.......that was my initial intention for using meta.properties and HTML....which was a BAD idea....grrrrrrr

I'll post a separate message for that tale of woe ;)

Thanks in advance!

Tom D

p.s. I've attached a screen shot of what I'm trying to accomplish

That should be easy, and there are probably several ways to accomplish it.
The easiest way would probably be to rename "meta.properties" (say, to "meta_bk.properties"). Exhibit Plus will not then include it when regenerating the top-level index.
I am not sure how you are using "meta.properties" elsewhere, or whether deleting "meta.properties" altogether is an option.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the response.....

Deleting or renaming the file would defeat the purpose of it in the sub-folders....

Like I said, I'm using meta.properties incorrectly where I'm using HTML code to format the main page......for example:

http://tomduggan.com/2006faves/

Has the following in meta.properties:

descript=

\

\
My Favorite Images of 2006 \

\
They may not be the most technically correct, but they're my faves. \

\
I had a WONDERFUL time on all the shoots we had this year and I'm so \

\
grateful to the people I met this year, and to those I had the chance \

\
to shoot with again.... \

So, in order for your suggestions to work, I'd have to either delete or rename all the meta.properties files in each of the sub-folders, .....which I'm not apt to do '-D

I really have a feeling I'm stuck with what I have....

I would like to keep all my image and guest book comments, but it looks like I may just have to regen the whole site....which is about 30 albums......

BLEH! LOL!

Thanks again...

What happens if you deselect "Show thumbnail comment" in Settings>ExhibitPlus>Index, when you generate this top-level index?
If you are doing this often, maybe you should have a separate .jap file for this top-level index where you don't want comments with the folder thumbnails. Then you don't have to remember to set and unset the checkbox depending on whether you are processing sub-folders.

I do not have the exact answer to your problem, but why not to try a free software as "Bulk Rename Utility"
http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Download.php
It will allow you to rename all the "meta.properties" in one run setting "Filter" (last one on bottom) to "meta.properties" and selected "Subfolder".
Rename them for example "meta.properties.bck", change your main page, then rename them back to original.
JP

Working only with Windows, but I am sure there is other utilities that can do the same with other OS.

Thanks again for the response Jim....

I re-gen'd the album with only "Prevent Image Save" and
"Multilvel Navigation bar" on the Index tab with the same results....

I'm appreciating all the responses and support, but just wondering
if I gorked this up enough that we're beating a dead horse? LOL

I have downloaded my website, so I'm wondering how it will look
if I run E+ against all the sub-folders with the existing JAlbum output
in them.....I can let it run overnight and see what happens...

I am also interested if you have any more ideas regarding my
original issue that may be floating around in the back of your head ;)

I do remember Mark being completely flummoxed at my use of
meta.properties, so I guess I should just take the pain, eh?

Thanks again!

Wait a minute....

I'm reading JeanPierre's and Jim's responses again and I may have seen the light....

Let's see if I understand how JAlbum works....

When a JAlbum album is created, meta.properties is no longer used, yes?

If that is the case, then perhaps renaming meta.properties is a viable option.

I did a count, and there's only a handful. I will not be updating any of the existing albums, just creating new ones....

And, with the new ones, I hope to find a better way of implementing HTML code...

WOW!

A revelation! WOO HOO!

I'll give that a shot!!

Thanks again JeanPierre and Jim!!!!!

Best,

Tom D

That's right. The project file (.jap), albumfiles.txt, comments.properties, meta.properties, footer.inc, etc. are all used to create an album. The finished album is just HTML (or sometimes Flash, depending on the skin). The HTML pages will be accompanied by some res files (usually graphic elements for the pages), a css file for stylesheet stuff, etc. But the project-type files aren't needed again unless you're making the album again (like after making changes, or adding images).

I know that this is a really old thread, but just in case this is still an issue.....

In the E+ 1.6 settings, in the index tab, there is a setting "Show subfolder comment". Uncheck this in the main index album, and this should do it. It's easier than repeatedly renaming and un-renaming the meta.properties files.
