Tutrle 5.5.1: Control of filename display

I have seen in other skin discussions that the index.htt has editable text (html) in "index.htt" which can control how and where the filename is displayed on an image screen.

I wish to not have the filename displayed but cannot recognise where to make an appropriate entry.

Help to locate this would be appreciated.

Thanks
Phil

Do not start trying to edit the template files - this will inevitably lead to problems. The Turtle settings already provide a way to control this. If you don't want the file name to be displayed with the slide image (the large display):

To control whether it appears under the thumbnail:

I want to have file name displayed with slide image so I amended the caption template as shown in your post. (see attached file) However, filename still not displaying. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,

Sorry, should have mentioned, this is Turtle 5.6.1

It's case-sensitive. It's ${fileLabel}, not ${FileLabel}.

Thanks very much for reply. Have changed that, but still not displaying filename. Displays OK in thumbnails when you hover mouse on image. See 2 examples attached. Filename is Lyons0017452.

The skin will display the file title if you've entered one, but the file name if you haven't entered a title. So, do you want only the file name displayed, or both the file title and the file name?

Please attach your project file - jalbum-settings.jap. I suspect you may also have something else wrong, but from a screenshot I can't tell.

Preferably both, but if that's not possible, then filename only as information in title field will be contained in the description field.
Settings file attached.

Thanks again for your response.

You can use any jAlbum variables you like in that caption template, so getting both title and raw file name is certainly do-able.

Let's assume you have mydog.jpg, with an entered title of My Dog Sparky. If you use the settings shown in ss003243, the slide caption will show:

My Dog Sparky - mydog.jpg

But watch out - if there's no entered title, it will show:

- mydog.jpg

So if you do this, you need to have a title for every image, or not use any punctuation in the caption template, but just a space, like ${fileTitle} ${fileName}

If you use the settings shown in ss003244, the slide caption will show:

My Dog Sparky - mydog

That ${label} variable is the raw file name, but with its extension stripped off.

BTW, your other settings all look OK. The only one I'd be a little cautious about is Album > Settings > Advanced > Metadata > Title source > IPTC Object Name.

If you're using an image management program and entering titles for your images, they might be stored in the IPTC, so this might be exactly what you want. But if you're entering your own titles in jAlbum, you don't want it picking up the IPTC stuff, which can sometimes contain garbage left over from somewhere else, like a title that says, "Adobe." ;)
