Thanks for detailing. I tried the improved version of Tiger and now get some nice response time, even with Firefox 52.3.0, which is sluggish on all pages:

I also rebuild and updated my album with Tiger 1.3.9.
It's a big improvment!

Now scrolling on my iPad Air2 to a lower area with all thumbnails unloaded, results in a lag of about 2 seconds. With the old version it was nearly unusable.
