Prevent changes after an upgrade

Hi, everyone.

It seems every time I upgrade to a newer version of Boxer, some new or old setting gets changed. It puzzles me especially when I simply open an old album and save it. Some undesired change happens. For example, yesterday I created a new album and imported the settings from a previous album. When I generated the new album, the thumbnail page showed up with unwanted text: "NAME: "" 22.10.09" Well, nothing like that was in the previous albums. I don't have anything showing up with the thumbnails. In fact the only text that appears in my photos are in the expanded photo if there is any comment. The date also appears on rollover on the expanded photo. After tweaking the settings over and over, I gave up and removed all text: date and comments. That cleared the problem with the thumbnails. However, I wonder if there is anything I can do to prevent these unwanted changes whenever I upgrade to a newer version. Maybe I'm missing some obvious setting here, but I don't get it why it's appearing on the thumbnails page when they were never there in older albums. Any suggestions?

You shouldn't be seeing that on the new version, either. The date could be explained if you have EXIF/IPTC enabled when the photos have no EXIF (it will show the date/time stamp). Is EXIF/IPTC enabled?

If that's not it, can you post a link to a sample album so I can troubleshoot?

When I enable EXIF, I do get the unwanted text. Here's an example showing what I'm talking about:

{test album removed by poster - problem fixed}

See the text above the thumbnails.

What I don't understand is the fact that 2 months ago I used the exact same setting (I just copied the last album settings) and did not have that text showing. Also the date only appeared when I rolled the mouse over the image (overlay). In the comment section, there was only text I added. I cannot get the date to appear only on overlay. Here's the example showing the way I had the date appearing on overlay and no text on thumbnails:

When I look at the photos using Bridge, I see the EXIF info listed. I have not changed cameras or software I use to manage the photos. What do you think I'm missing?

Thanks for taking time to troubleshoot this. I appreciate your advice.

Hmmm... that line of code hasn't changed since 4.0. It appears the overlay isn't working anymore, which may be a bug in this version of Highslide. I've been doing all of my EXIF/IPTC in the caption lately because I don't like how Highslide 4.x handles overlays (or at least they sure did work better in 3.x, IMHO).

I'll look at it more tomorrow; in the meantime please try putting the date in the caption bar and verify that works properly. (I know it's not what you want, but please verify functionality.)

BTW, I really like your photos! I haven't been to Glacier since I was a kid so they brought back some memories. :)

Alan,

Thanks for your response. Yes, the date works fine along with the captions (I revised the test album and now it shows the date on the caption). I liked the overlay because it was unobtrusive. It was more as a reminder for me if I needed to know when the shot was taken.

Glad you liked the Glacier shots. Of the 3 parks we visited this year, we loved Glacier and would like to go back for more hikes.

I have just uploaded Boxer 4.1.2 which fixes this problem. It was my bug, not Torstein's. ;)

Alan,

You're +da man+! Thanks for fixing the problem. I've revised my album now. It is working just like the previous one (http://ka-el.net/yellowstone/).

P.S.: The test album mentioned above in this thread has been removed.
