A specific scaling method might generate acceptable images for all bar a few images, whilst another method might be better for those few but worse for the rest. Making these sampling methods available for individual images would make a nice feature. Is that possible?

Sure. It sounds like a reasonable future feature to be able to boost the image scaling quality for select images.

As long as the skin supports separate theme images, the remove and drag-and-drop work fine. If the skin doesn't support separate theme images, you can't do either, of course. The folder options panel can't force the skin to do something it's not built to do.

I think there is something wrong with themeHeight .

I write normally debug information to index.html by adding in index.htt:code<!-- themePath = ${themePath} themeWidth= ${themeWidth} themeHeight= ${themeHeight }

Incorrect, my debug statement was wrong: ${themeHeight } , with ${themeHeight} it is OK

What is your own experience? I did sent you the whole project!

Edit:

I know what the problem is, you changed in skin.properties

separateThemeImage=true
into
separateThemeImage=false

I changed it back to true and now is the problem gone!

In my experience I can always drop images onto any of the selectors in the folder property panel that have rounded dashed borders (indicating they accept drops)

I don't understand that because you introduced an error when you made Minimal-Andre as I said already above.

Another problem with your code:
Your version shows after a Make still a theme image after you removed the theme image via the Remove menu item.

Finally you did not implement the display options showed in the UI.

It is all corrected in the attached jaskin file, see here for the album made with that version. Notice the responsive display of the theme image!

I don’t understand the debug information showed in the index.html file of this album:
 <!--  themePath =  themeWidth=  themeHeight=
folderImageSize= 900x300 imgThemeHeight= 300 maxImageWidth= 900 maxImageHeight= 900 -→

No values for variables themePath, themeWidth and themeHeight!

Edit
Extra questions removed.

Can't wait to read RobM's comprehensive manual explanation of those. ;)

Edit: But why two comboboxes to select a scaling method? Why not just add the new choices to the existing list?

The current explanation is already a bit lengthy, so I think simplification is the answer:
"Resizing an image requires sampling and ideally the samples should be evenly spaced but avoiding regular patterns. Sampling methods available are: Fastest, Medium, Smooth, Blackman-Bessel, Blackman-Sinc, Lanczos and Mitchell. Sampling techniques include nearest neighbour, area averaging, bilinear, bicubic, best-candidate to name a few.

Each sampling technique has advantages and disadvantages depending on the type of image being sampled. Advantages of each tend to be that they preserve a specific property, like hard edges. Disadvantages are the generation of artefacts such as blocking, ringing, moire and blurring.

If the images generated suffer from artefacts try another scaling method."

That’s my two pence worth.

Applications differ with respect to the comprehensiveness of their documentation:

http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/filter/

http://www.imagemagick.org/Usage/filter/nicolas/

That’s my two Euro cents worth.

Hi all,

I'm pleased to tell you that we've now reached "release candidate" stage, and it's going to be jAlbum 15, not 14.2 as there has been major changes. Here are updated installers for you to test: Windows , Mac and zip.

Changes:
  • Rearranged scaling quality UI again. Now more logical as all the new scaling algorithms are variants of Smooth. The new algorithms are now also fed full sized originals for max potential quality (unlike earlier beta). The "Standard" smooth setting corresponds to the existing Smooth setting.
  • Fixed behavior of the theme image selector. It's now always reflecting the representing folder image unless the skin supports separate theme images. It's never blank unless the folder doesn't contain any images.
  • Bundled with updated Tiger skin supporting separate theme images
  • Fixed bug preventing hard links from being used for videos when "Do not re-encode" is used as global video setting.
  • Fixed long standing bug causing improper initial preview (only partly painted page)
  • jAlbum 15 now allows an additional 30 days of evaluation for everyone.

Attachment StartupError.PNG (11.7 KB)
Windows 10 shows the well known startup error which I and terokinnunen (see here) did report earlier, after an update from version 14.

To solve it, the same recipe as reported above: after uninstalling and reinstalling the problem was gone.

Interesting. I've never seen that issue reported by anyone else (but I trust you naturally). I've updated the Windows installer to the latest version now, see if it helps.

… a core implementation of theme image generation too (generating a "folderimage.jpg" to the output folder just like Turtle and Tiger does). To use the default theme image generation, add the following to your skin's init file:
engine.setThemeImageProcessor(new ThemeImageProcessor());
Apart from that, you need to add the relevant code to index.htt. To simplify this, I've added 3 new variables: themePath (analogous to thumbPath and imagePath), themeWidth and themeHeight (analogous to their thumb* and image* counterparts):

index.htt:

<ja:if exists="themePath">
<div class="themeImage">
      <img src="${themePath}" width="${themeWidth}" height="${themeHeight}">
</div>
</ja:if>
Using RC1 and adding the new variables to common.css does not work, nothing is produced in the album's version.

That shouldn't really be a surprise, should it? When the CSS files are being generated, there is no "current object." At that point, the existence of a themePath is unknown. After all, it might be different at every folder level.

True, sorry I'm missing my coffee, not had any caffeine for a few weeks now - so I'm dumber than normal (yes, I know it's another easy hit for you ;) )

Just keep putting up those easy lobs, eh?

When it comes to CSS stuff, you might have a skin variable that indicates whether the user wants to use theme images or not. You can certainly use that to do some conditional CSS. Otherwise, I guess you just have to assume that they'll be there.

Caffeine? Got hit with a thunderstorm that rattled the windows and put about 2cm of hailstones on the ground. Naturally, the power crapped out, and the cable service with it. So, I had to start drinking earlier than usual. Back online now, but the damage is done. ;)
