Announcement: Testing local preview in Chrome

Due to the fact that local file access is treated risky, local testing of database-driven albums - like Photoblogger - is not possible in Chrome, Opera and IE. (Works in Firefox though) If you still want to use Chrome for testing local albums - as I do - you will have to circumvent this limitation by starting Chrome in lowered security mode.

Save the following line of code as "chrome-test.cmd" into your home folder, and Pin to start menu (drop onto the Start button):
start /d "C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\Application\" chrome.exe --allow-file-access-from-files

On Macs use the following command in the Terminal app:
open /Applications/Google\ --args --allow-file-access-from-files

On Opera you can do the same, because it is using the same engine as of version 18.0
start /d "%programfiles(x86)%\Opera" launcher.exe --allow-file-access-from-files
# On 32 bit windows use:
#start /d "%programfiles%\Opera" launcher.exe --allow-file-access-from-files

Now you'll be able to start Chrome from the start menu. But it will only start in this mode if no other Chrome windows are open at that moment!

Please note, although Photoblogger will not do any harm - it never runs code from XHTTP requests -, other pages might inject malicious code in this mode, so use this mode with precaution when browsing other pages!
