Manage album privacy

The jAlbum desktop application offers a couple of different ways to control who can access your albums and photos.

  • Hiding albums

    Hiding new albums

First, you can control if the albums you publish show up on the jalbum.net community site and on your own jAlbum profile page.

Start the jAlbum application. Then select Tools -> Preferences (jAlbum -> Preferences on Mac) and choose the "Publishing" tab. Deselect the option "Automatically update my profile page". Any albums published after making this change will be hidden from other jalbum.net users. You can still send the direct link to the album to friends though.

    Hiding already published albums

For albums that you have already published, you can sign in to jalbum.net and click on the tab with our username. Then hover your mouse over the album you want to hide, select "Edit album" and then expand the "Privacy" options and select "Only me" as the option for "Who will see my album on jalbum.net?". Don't forget to save your changes.

  • Password protection

You can also password protect your albums if you publish your albums to your jAlbum account (if you are publishing to your own site you need to ask your hosting provider how to enabled password protection on folders).

Start the jAlbum application and open an existing album project. Click "Make Album" and preview it. Then go to Tools -> Publish/Manage, select your account and click "Connect".

Press enter to create your album folder or select another album folder name. Right click the newly created folder and select "Password protect".

    enter a password

Now enter your password. Please note that passwords are case sensitive – "MySecret" is not the same as "mysecret".

Make sure your new folder is still selected and press "Upload" and then "OK". Your album is now published and password protected!

You can also do this for albums that you have already published. Just right click on them in the "Publish/Manage" album folder list and choose "Password protect". They will then instantly be password protected.
