Have you submitted your work to the photo book contest Photography.Book.Now by Blurb? It truly is your chance for worldwide recognition and also getting paid for your dedicated work as a photographer. $25,000 is at stake for the one winner with the most impressive work. Also there are several photography related prizes for the runners up and category prizes.
What is interesting about this competition is that it's not necessarily the best photographers that win the prizes. It's the ones creating the most stunning photo books.
Blurb is hosting the Blurb Photography Book Workshop series in June, featuring photographer Dan Milnor, graphic designer Bob Aufuldish, and Lightroom guru Jerry Courvoisier. In these 4-hour workshops you’ll learn about the principals of book design, editing your images in Lightroom for optimum results, and how to use Blurb books to promote your work. You can also participate in a photography book review prior to the workshop. Having your work reviewed is not a requirement to attend the workshops. Photography book reviews begin at 4:00 pm; the workshop kicks off at 6:00 pm (expect it to last until about 10:00 pm). Cost to attend is $49 for the workshop, and $79 including the photography book review. Dates, locations and links to RSVP follow below: June 16, San Francisco – http://blurbworkshopsf.eventbrite.com June 18, NYC – http://blurbworkshopnyc.eventbrite.com June 22, London – http://blurbworkshoplondon.eventbrite.com June 24, Chicago – http://blurbworkshopchicago.eventbrite.com

| | | | This release looks pretty much the same on the outside, but don't let the surface fool you. Jalbum 8.3 is packed with improvements under the hood. For instance, twice the speed on smooth image scaling, and a significantly faster and tighter album publishing. We've also made it easier to import settings from previous album projects so you can make a new album with the same settings as another album in a snap. Jalbum 8.3 can now print your images to your own printer. It also has a new “Instant preview” function that lets you generate a rough preview of your album using the selected skin and style settings in a split second! Play with it by browsing through skins and styles, then press F3! For a full list of changes, see the release notes. | | | | | Candy for skin developers Skin developers will enjoy the new “Pack as .jaskin” function to quickly zip their skins for distribution. | | |
| | New storage for your albums We've seen a fantastic growth of new Jalbum users lately, which is exciting. The massive number of accounts was starting to take its toll on the old hosting server so we initiated a server move to new hosting servers a couple of months back. Now we're running on new physical servers, disks and software. The servers are located 30 meters under ground in a re-built bomb-shelter in Stockholm, originally designed to withstand a close nuclear bomb hit. Check out the album, it's a cool place! | | | | | | Lean, mean, publishing machine The new servers make Jalbum accounts better in many regards: - Publishing albums is significantly faster thanks to “zipstreaming” — your albums are compressed into one zip file during publishing and decompressed automatically on the server side. Our forum admins have published typical albums from the U.K, U.S, Australia and Hungary and measure around 3 times faster publishing!
- Albums can be deleted from the server in a fraction of a second.
| | | | | I want to extend a thank you to Ben Spink who has written CrushFTP — the server used for publishing and developed these new features that are specific to our needs. I also want to thank our forum admins for helping us testing this new service. Now we eagerly await feedback from you! |

I bet you’ve heard the quote "Badges?... We don't need no... stinkin' badges!" from The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, even if you never saw the movie. It’s amazing how a quote, a tune or a photo can awaken something inside all of us that is eternally memorable. To get your amazing photo albums to stick, people need to see them, where you are. That is why we built the Jalbum Blog badge for all of you who run a blog.
We silently launched the Jalbum Blog badge in March and told you about it on this blog. Since then, thousands of people have started using it on their blogs!
The Blog Badge is now publicly available as a link on your profile page. If you haven’t added it to you blog yet do it now. Help us spread the word If you are a blogger; send an email to carl@jalbum.net when you added the Jalbum Blog badge to your blog. We will upgrade the first 30 Blog badge users with a Jalbum premium account for one year (Worth €19). jalbum.net/create-badge

Last week we moved all of our servers to a new location – the ex nuclear bunker Pionen. The bunker is located 30 meters below ground and completely state of the art as well as an architectural wonder. The inspiration for the place was old sci-fi movies like Star Wars and Logan’s run. Plants and artificial lighting are decorating the interior and create a wonderful work environment for the staff managing the servers.
The technology is quite unique. 1.5 megawatt of cooling for the servers, Triple redundancy Internet backbone access and German submarine engines to handle the backup power (image above)! Pingdom.com calls this place The world’s most super-designed data center – fit for a James Bond villain.
Due to the move we had a downtime last Thursday. We hope this did not cause any problem for you. Now your albums will survive the strike of an atom bomb.
